Advantages: everything! especially dollar rate this year Disadvantages: none, although maybe long flight may put people off
We both agree this our very favourite place to snowboard. We have visited the Tahoe area twice, both times doing a 2 centre holiday to take advantage of the ski resorts on either side of the lake.
Getting there - we flew direct from London to San Francisco and hired a car. It's a 3-4 hour drive and we defiinitely recommend getting a 4x4. We were a party of 4 and hired this massive beast of a car - a Jack Baauer style V8 which was actually really easy to drive. We called it the Canyonero (any Simpson fans will know what I mean) and I know we're not doing the environment any favours but it was spacious enough for 4 adults, 4 snowboards and 4 sets of luggage, and once you get to Tahoe everyone has them. The car is king in the USA and you will use it a lot in Tahoe so honestly get a 4x4 it's not worth messing about with snow chains etc ...
Advantages: Beautiful, serene lake Disadvantages: Can get busy
Here are my top 5 tips for Lake Tahoe.
1) Don't bother pre-booking accommodation. There are tons of motels, hotels and other digs all round the Lake (though mainly on the South and the state border). They are all clean, convenient and cheap. You won't have trouble finding accommodation.
2) Pack your walking shoes. There are some lovely walks round the Lake which are essential. You don't appreciate the beauty and serenity unless you get out the car and start walking. Stick to marked trails.
3) Have a flutter. There are some so-so casinos on the state border (in Nevada) which are worth a visit and a quick punt. We stuck to the nickel slots which are cheap and fun (we even came out on top)
4) Come in Summer. We went in Summer which is probably the best time. Tahoe is really a winter resort and in winter is overflowing with skiers ...
Advantages: Amazing comfort, load space, Towing Capacity LPG savings Disadvantages: Parts can be costly, maintainence needs to be maticulous
I bought a Blazer 6 months ago after owning Frontera's, Shoguns and numerous landrovers.
By far the S10 UK spec Blazer leaves them in the dust, mines LPG converted making it supprisingly economic, drive it on a motorway run and you can return fantstic value for money, i took mine to France recently and drove from York to Dover at motorway speeds with 4 adults and luggage and cost was £40.
I had heard reports that parts were expensive, my outlook on this is overall the cost of chevrolet parts is relative to owning a Range Rover.
if your willing to wait parts are easily obtained from the USA at reasonable costs (just watch for the shipping fees)
The comfort offered by the Chevrolet is amazing, you can spend a whole day behind the wheel and still get out feeling fresh, the drive is amazingly easy for such a big vehicle. Parking in ...
