This novel is based on a short story of Asimov's, "the Ugly Little Boy". It was first published in 1958, in Galaxy Magazine. For this novel, Asimov collaborated with Robert Silverberg, an equally talented writer,and the story became 'Child of Time', published in 1991.
The premis of the novel is that a science company, researching statis and time travel manage to grab a neanderthal child form the ice age, and transport him to a world set itn he near future.
The child is named Timmie, and is assigned a nurse, Miss Fellows to take care of him while he is observed. The novel tells of the devloping emotional bond between the nurse who is a surrogate mother figure, and thechild. When Miss Fellows discovers what the corporation have planned as the culmination of their experiments with the child, she takes matters into her own hands, fleeing with him back to the ice age and his tribe.
Well worth a read, if only to see how human emotions can foil corporate greed.
