The Second of Five Books in THE INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD Trilogy

Advantages: A really inventive tale; teaches history (of sorts) in a fun non-judgemental way.
Disadvantages: You want to know what will happen next to the people.

...to their own times; * Return of the Indian (1985) ~ The story "The Plastic Indian" based on the events which happened a year ago has won Omri a prize, and he wants to tell his Iroquois friend all about it; Little Bull comes back wounded, and events move on from here; * The Secret of the Indian (1989) ~ This is possibly the weakest of the stories, as it ties up loose strings from the previous book(s). It doesn't stand up very well as a "stand-alone" ...
...times. THE RETURN OF THE INDIAN Omri writes the story of The Plastic Indian and enters it into a writing competition at his school. He thinks no more about it and gets caught up in the struggles of real life, which include Patrick's parents getting divorced and Patrick moving away with his mother and brother. It is the beginning of his last year before High School, and his family has also moved, to a new, bigger, house; Unfortunately ...

Noughts and Crosses is a book everyone should read

Advantages: it will really make you think about the way you look at the world
Disadvantages: it's not long enough!

I first read this about 5 years ago when i first started working in the children's department of a bookshop. it was sold from the teenage section and as i was used to reading adult fiction, was dubious as to how good it could be as it was for children, after all. however, this is one of the best books i have ever read. it was the first book that made me think about how i look at the world and had me gripped form the very beginning. this should not ...
...should be studied in all secondary schools and is more relevant and brings more issues to the fore than shakespeare ever could. i have recommended it to so many adults, all who have said it was amazing. it is the first in a series but can be read as a stand alone book. i cannot express how good this book really is. brutal, but awesome. ...

The tiger who came to tea is a childrens story book which is written and illustrated by judith kerr, and its my daughters favourite book which i read to her before she goes to sleep each night. My sister bought this for my daughter last year for christmas, im not sure how much it actually cost her but the price on the back of the book is £5.99, The story is about a little girl called sophie who is having tea and cakes with her mummy when there comes ...
...that!! Sophie lets the tiger in and offers him some tea and cakes but the tiger then eats them all and drinks all the tea too, he is still hungry so then goes round the kitchen and consumes everything in the cupboards, all the supper that was cooking, and all the food in the fridge, and all the water in the tap until there is nothing left!! When the tiger has finished he then thanks sophie and her mummy and leaves. Sophie and her mum then clean the ...

Dig Into Sachar's Sun-Baked Tale

Advantages: A skillful mix of styles and influences, memorable characters.
Disadvantages: The narrative reaches great heights, but can't quite keep them up.

...strong narrative pulling it along, Holes appeals across the age range. Although ostensibly a tale of mystery and endurance, Holes appeals so strongly because of the way in which it weaves a multitude of other themes and styles into the storytelling. Wild-West backstories, European folklore and a hint of black comedy pepper the narrative, adding depth and substance to the novel and giving a sense of life beyond the limits of the pages. The book also ...
...upon them. Holes is an entertaining, exceedingly well-written novel that moves along at a pace sufficient to keep most readers rapt. If there's a weakness it's that it moves away from its most effective sections - those spent digging the eponymous holes - rather sooner than one might wish. Though the novel gains in terms of progressing the plot, it takes awhile before it can again reach for the heights of this part of the book, where Sachar paints ...

Enid Blyton is one of the most successful children's writers ever. Her prolific output of 700 books has been translated into more than 40 languages and sold in excess of 400 million copies worldwide.First pulication of this book was May 1939. My mum was given this book as a youngster and then passed it onto myself when i was 10, I read it cover to cover and on finishing I started it all again. This is a gorgeous fairy tale for you to read alone ...
...willing to sit and read the whole book to them.because once you have started they wont let you finish and you wont want to stop either. But in my own opinion it has gotten better over the years that I have grown up as I now understand more of the terminology used. I feel that children under the age of about 10 will probably have more difficulty in understanding every word but none the less I dont feel it will go 'over thier heads'.As the characters ...
