Review of Debi Gliori's Bedtime Stories - Mary Ling by newby2

Advantages: get stories brilliant illistrations
Disadvantages: none

Bedtime Stories by Debi Gliori - Bedtime tales with a twist Jack may only be four months old but there is never a better time to get him in to the wonderful world of books. I have so many fond memories from being a young girl and having so many wonderful books in my possession that really could take you to a completely different magical land and I so want that for my son. After having a look in Waterstone's and even places like Woolworth's and ...
...are far more expensive than adult paperback books and this is probably why I remember getting al my childhood books from boot sales and such like places. With Jack still being so young I really don't want to buy too many books for his age group as the words are limited and he'll have no use for them soon. I would much rather buy books that I can read to him and he can look at all the wonderful pictures. Before deciding on what books to buy for him ... Read review

Review of Daisy and The Egg - Jane Simmons by neenn

Advantages: A popular character and beautifully illustrated.
Disadvantages: The use of 'Mamma' rather than Mummy or Mammy!

...was, utterly exhaused.' - Daisy and the Egg - The story begins with Daisy the duckling asking how many eggs her Auntie Buttercup is sitting on. Four comes the reply, one of which is Daisy's Mummy's egg. Not wanting to feel left out Daisy asks if she can sit on an egg to nurture it but it proved extremely difficult, given her size in relation to the egg so instead Daisy visits her Auntie each day with food. During her visits she listens to the ...

On the day of 'hatching' they all look on as the babies struggle to get out until the first one comes out whereupon Daisy declares that it looks disgusting! "I'll Tell You A Tale Of Vampirates...
Review of Demons of the Ocean (Vampirates S.) - Justin Somper by Jonni_boi

Advantages: great book really captivating
Disadvantages: none

Justin Somper has made this book brilliant and inspiring. Anthony Horowitz described it as "Totally Original". This book is amazingly based around an old sea shanty about Vampirates. It is quoted below: "I'll tell you a tale of Vampirates, A tale as old as true. Yea, I'll sing you a song of an ancient ship, And it's mighty fearsome crew. Yea, I'll sing you a song of an ancient ship, That sails the oceans blue... That haunts the oceans blue. ...
...wings in flight. They say the captain, he wears a veil So as to curtail your fright At his death-pale skin And his lifeless eyes And his teeth as sharp as night. Oh, they say the captain, he wears a veil And his eyes never see the light. "You'd better be good, child - good as gold, As good as good can be. Else I'll turn you in to the Vampirates And wave you out to sea. Yes, you'd better be good, child - good as gold, Because - look! ... Read review

...on the pavement outside of Laura's window. Laura rushes outside with her torch to take a closer look at the star. Laura is in awe of the stars beauty, but then notices that a point of the star has broken off. Laura gently carries the star back into her house and manages to stick the broken point of the star back on. Laura then takes the star into her bed and tells it her secrets. When she wakes up in the morning the star has disappeared. Laura ...
...lots of fun detail, like Laura's dragon mug and plate of cookies. Teddy peeps out from under the duvet. This is a lovely, touching story of friendship and putting the needs of others before your own needs. It can be read on many different levels. A very young child will love the illustrations and simple story. For an older child the story can help with a discussion about the needs of others and important friendships. My son and I discussed how important ... Read review
