Alice Through The Looking Glass- Lewis Carroll
Review of Alice Through the Looking Glass - Lewis Carroll by ironic_anathema

Advantages: Very fun to read
Disadvantages: None!

...book as the first one, Alice in Wonderland, and it's definitely in my Top 10 list of favourite books. From the surreal train journey at the beginning to the whole journey across the chess board, it's brilliantly absurd! Not just for children, because teenagers and adults can also get a lot out of it...maybe you can try reading between the lines to find Carroll's hidden messages. It's not just a kids' story! In addition, the characters are appealing ... Read review

Mucky Duck? No! It's A Goose.
Review of Pond Goose - Caroline Jayne Church by belfin

Advantages: Funny story and pictures
Disadvantages: none

...We are then introduced to Pond Goose who is always mucky. The other geese are ashamed of him but soon realise that the fox never sees Pond Goose at night because he is always so dirty and dark, whilst their white feathers show up in the moonlight. All the geese decide to get muddy too and they are very happy until one day Pond Goose realises how cold it's getting and goes off to find a clean pond to wash all the dirt off. Just as he is finished ...
...fox appears again. Luckily Pond Goose is on hand and saves the day and at last he feels accepted by the other geese as they thank him. ***The Illustrations*** The drawings in this book are lovely, simple and precise with a print design making up the background grass, trees and ponds. The geese all look a bit bewildered in every page and I particularly like the pictures at the start and end of the book where the pond is full of white goose bottoms ... Read review

Alison Croggon's 'The Riddle'
Review of The Riddle - Alison Croggon by bnmnmmb

Advantages: A fantastic second half to the novel
Disadvantages: A slow start to the plot

As a great fan of the first book in the Pellinor series I approached this book with a sense of eager anticipation. If it was anything like the first book then it would be fantasticly entertaining. And yet when I first started reading I couldn't help but feel a sense of bitter disappointment. The story rejoins Maered just after she has been forced to flee Norloch across the sea to the island of Thorold with Cadavan, whilst her brother heads south ...
...again Maereds powers come to the rescue. However by now it all seems far too predictable so you are expecting Maered to come to the rescue. This sense of having seen it all before continues through much of the first half of the book, with little advancement to the general story line for a lengthy section. Don't get me wrong this part of the book still contains lots of activity, it just fails to regain the strong sense of brilliance that was so characteristic ... Read review

Fun With Flaps
Review of Oh Dear! - Rod Campbell by newby2

Advantages: a great book
Disadvantages: none

Oh Dear By Rod Campbell Oh Dear is a board book written by Rod Campbell and has lots of flaps to lift up to reveal pictures hidden underneath. Rod Campbell has done quite a few similar books to this one and as I had been given his book entitled Dear Zoo I thought I would get my hands on this one. This book was first published way back in 1983 but has been re-published many times since until this one I have was published in 2003. The RRP on the ...
...I have seen it many places for a lot cheaper and there are always tons of these books at boots ales and on line auction sites. The book tells us a short story involving a young boy named Buster who goes to visit his grandma on her farm. When his grandma sends him out to go and bring in the eggs, Buster just can't quite remember where he is supposed to look. His wander round the farm to hunt for the eggs takes him to various different places where ... Read review

A change of gender for Cinders!
Review of prince cinders - Babette Cole by neenn

Advantages: Good twist on a traditonal fairy-tale
Disadvantages: You either love or hate the turn-around of the traditional.

...of Cinders, hence the title Prince Cinders. ~ Babette Cole ~ Born in Jersey, Babette attended a convent school and went on to take a degree at Art School in Canterbury. She began her career drawing for Jackanory and TV comics. Her first book was published in 1976 and since then she has written more than 70, the most famous perhaps being 'Mummy Laid An Egg'. Babette Cole is renowned for her funny, witty and rather unconventional approach to children's ...
...~ The story ~ Prince Cinders isn't much of a prince being small, spotty, scruffy and skinny, very unlike his three big hairy brothers who are always teasing him about his looks. The brothers spend their time going out with princesses while Cinders is left at home to clean up, wishing he looked just like them!! (God knows why!!) A Fairy Godmother arrived and grants all of his wishes which do go a bit wrong: * the empty can turns in to a toy sports ... Read review
