Miss Dirt was both Rich and Poor!
Review of Miss Dirt the Dustman's Daughter - Allan Ahlberg by sewbizzie

Advantages: Great fun story, easy to read
Disadvantages: None

Miss Dirt the Dustman's Daughter is a title which is in the Happy Families collection of books. The collection has been designed and written especially for beginner readers to encourage independent reading. The front cover of the book is orange and has a picture of a little girl standing leaning on a dustbin. The title is above this in red lettering. Above the title is the Happy Families logo which is in nice bright coloured rectangles. The back ...
...titles available in the collection. At the beginning of the book we are introduced to Daisy Dirt and find out that she is an unusual girl, she was the poorest and richest girl in the whole town, she had lots to wear and nothing to wear, a huge room or her own and a tiny room of her own. She had a little dog and a big dog, a little hamster and a big horse. She ate a big dinner and a very big dinner. All of this is because Daisy lived half of the time ... Read review

A Little Ray of Sunshine
Review of Little Miss Sunshine - Roger Hargreaves by MI9to5

Advantages: Brilliant story
Disadvantages: NONE

Re-reading my Mr Men and Little Miss collection for the purpose of giving honest reviews to dooyoo has really reinforced my love for this fantastic collection of books. Obviously I knew before re-reading them that the Mr Men and Little Miss stories would always be my favourite books but I never realised how fantastic they were and never really noticed how much both me and my younger have read these books during our childhood. Now this alone should ...
...with the Mr Men and Little Miss characters as much as me. The Mr Men series began in 1971 and the Little Miss series in 1981. Within a very short time-period the books were well sought after and now the original collection consists of 76 books, the Little Miss collection making up 33 of these. There is also a new collection, which consists of 24 books, 12 Mr Men and 12 Little Miss. Little Miss Sunshine is number 4 in the original collection and ... Read review

Fright, Camera, Action
Review of The Dark Behind the Curtain - Gillian Cross by MI9to5

Advantages: Great story
Disadvantages: Maybe a little scary for younger readers

The Dark Behind the Curtain is a fantastic book for 8 - 15 year olds written by Gillian Cross and published in 1982. I'm not on the whole a fan of horror / thriller style novels but got this book a few years ago in a Gillian Cross set and so never being the sort of person to simply ignore a book sat on my bookshelf I duly picked it up and delved in. The story itself is quite dark in places as the book tells the tale of Jackus who hates being in ...
...explained begin to occur and the lines between acting and reality and soon sufficiently blurred that not only Jackus but those around him have trouble realise when those on stage are acting and when they are not. Things however get progressively worse and Jackus' fear builds and builds. To make matter so much worse a disaster seems to be looming over the whole production and no one else but Jackus seems to be able to see it. As fear grips him however ... Read review

Food can be Fun with Charlie & Lola
Review of I Will Not Ever, Never Eat a Tomato - Lauren Child by sagitaria

Advantages: Children will identify with the food
Disadvantages: None

...4. I'm not sure whether I should be reporting these children to the Social Services because it seems that Charlie is in charge of Lola in every scenario with no trace of a parent in sight. Charlie is often given the task of looking after Lola, which can involve anything from encouraging her to eat her dinner to making her to go to bed. We are often told by Charlie that his Mum and Dad have asked him to help Lola with various activities, but we only ...
...book from the series which I am reviewing today is my younger daughter's absolute favourite. Its title 'I will not ever never eat a tomato' is a sentence she repeats endlessly. It's particularly pertinent to her because she has refused to touch a tomato her entire life. This causes me much grief, being fully aware of the health benefits of tomatoes. I hoped this book could help her overcome her dislike of tomatoes. I can't say it will do much for ... Read review
