Bandy Legged Giraffe!
Review of Giraffes Can't Dance (Orchard Picturebooks) - Giles Andreae by
BecksterMas
Advantages: Great story
Disadvantages: None
OVERVIEW
Every year, poor Gerald the giraffe dreads the great Jungle Dance. He is worried because he can't tango and two-step with the rest of the jungle animals. But one day he realises that it doesn't matter that he is not the same as everyone else- he just needs a different tune to dance to.
This tender story has fabulously funny illustrations by Guy Parker-Rees, from Purple Ronnie fame. It is told in rhyme by the award-winning author Giles ... ...listen to when you read it out loud. Richard and Judy selected it as one of their favourite 5 years plus childrens' book.
AGE
I would recommend it for children aged 3-5 years, although when I have taught children in Year 3 (aged 7 or 8), they have often brought it in from home as a favourite- it obviously has continuing appeal.
PRICE
I bought mine for £2.99, which is superb value.
QUOTE
I thought it would be good to include a quote to demonstrate ...

A greatly amusing book for children and parents!!
Review of Rumble In The Jungle - David Wojtowycz, Giles Andreae by
Ciciu
Advantages: Wonderful rhymes, lovely pictures.
Disadvantages: Leaves other books to gather dust.
An absolute favourite, but not just for children for parents too! My 3 year old loves it so much that we read it almost every night. Fortunately, unlike some childrens books I don't get fed up of reading this over and over. THE STORY
Wonderfully written, funny rhymes perfectly worded for little ones. Describing the most popular jungle animals. The giraffe, chimpanzee, gorilla, elephant, lion, tiger and more. Animals are always a great inerest to ... ...great way for children to learn.
The lion's the king of the jungle
Just listen how loudly he roars
Every animal quivers
And shudders, and shivers
As soon as he opens his jaws
THE ILLUSTRATIONS
The pictures in this book are fantastic, which is very important for childrens books. When my son was less than a year old I took him to Waterstones to get some childrens books. I was having a browse when all of a sudden he started laughing. He wasn't ...

An Unexpected Passion
Review of The Lion Who Wanted To Love - Giles Andreae by
wendybull
Advantages: Rhyming verse
Disadvantages: None
...it is hard to get the balance right, and this is why I usually refrain from attempting them. However before the half term started my son (aged nearly six) brought home this book from school to read over the holidays and I have enjoyed it so much I thought I would attempt the unthinkable!
--The Story--
The basis of the story is a young lion cub called Leo (original!!) who wasn't really interested in the normal things that lions do, like fighting, ... ...his friends. He is, in the end, banished from his pride for being an outsider and has to live on his own.
Finding a cave to shelter in he watches some antelope being chased by leopards and saves the baby ones from being eaten. They are so grateful that Leo decides to spend his days looking after other animals. He only wants to love and play and be helpful! His kindness is repaid by the animals he helps as they give him food and companionship so ...

Noughts and Crosses
Review of Noughts And Crosses - Malorie Blackman by
wantaratgirl
Advantages: Lots of interesting and thoughtful plots to throw you.
Disadvantages: Can get rather slow in the middle.
I have rated this book 4/5 star. It is a deep and meaningful book all about apartheid. It is a reverse of the British apartheid in South Africa, as Sephy and Callum (main characters) live in a world where white people are second best and black people are rich and powerful. This is a very compelling book. It is not to be read if you are looking something light and cheerful. I would recommend this book to anyone in their teens to adults as it is not ...

On Cloud Nine
Review of Mr Daydream - Roger Hargreaves by
MI9to5
Advantages: Lovely character
Disadvantages: N/A
Mr Daydream is another Mr Men story from the Mr Men Collection written by Roger Hargreaves, which contains 46 books. Mr Daydream is number 13 in the series and is a pale blue cloud shaped character with a very broad grin. This is the picture of him that is one the front of the book, which is itself small square and white. Mr Daydream's name is then printed above this picture in bold block capitals. On turning the book over you can then see smaller ... ...format as all the other Mr Men stories with writing on the left hand side of the book and colourful pictures on the right. The pictures are extremely bright and cartoon like and so ensure a child's attention is captured throughout the duration of the story but the writing itself although their isn't much of it making the books great for bedtime, it can be rather small. The book itself is a story about Mr Daydream and this is exactly how the story ...
