Go on...give me a hug
Review of Hug - Jez Alborough by
historywitch
Advantages: You can make the story as long as you like, wide age range, lovely pictures
Disadvantages: none
...as her new favourite.
Hug is the simple story of Bobo the chimpanzee who is walking through the jungle. As he walks he sees an elephant and their baby having a hug, which makes him sad as he doesn’t have anyone to hug. The elephant picks him up and take him to find his mummy, passing lots of other animals who are hugging their children. Just as Bobo has given up his mummy turns up and they have a lovely hug with all the other animals.
The best ... ...attempts to give them a hug (the goat didn’t appreciate it much!). ‘Hug’ is also handy for slipping in a little gentle reminder about why you should stay close to mummy or daddy when out and about and how it might make you feel when you are lost. My daughter likes to snuggle in close and to really hold me tight when we are reading it, she often empathises with the chimp to the extent that she will get a little upset when he is lost and does a little ...

Where's Your Ball Gone Duck?
Review of Hit The Ball Duck - Jez Alborough by
belfin
Advantages: clever rhymes along with fantastic pictures
Disadvantages: none
***The Background***
Jez Alborough is a master at not only writing, but also illustrating children's books. His clever but simple rhymes enthral children and his funny drawings keep them laughing as the story is told.
He has published over 30 books to date with both Walker Books and Harper Collins, who delight us with this popular Duck series. His books are published in not only hardback form like this one, but in paperback and boardbooks too. ... ...***The Story***
The little rhyme on the inside of the book goes like this,
"Duck and friends go out one day
with a bat, a ball and a glove to play.
Duck hits the ball but where does it fall?
On a branch in the tree - now they can't play at all.
Frog has an idea, Duck lends a hand
but nothing turns out quite as planned.
The story starts as we see Duck and friends driving their way to the park and when they arrive Duck can't wait to start playing ...

'Goodnight Moon!!'
Review of Happy Birthday, Moon - Frank Asch by
elvyelvy
Advantages: A lovely entertaining children's book, keeps the kids happy.
Disadvantages: None
I first read this book way back when as a little girl. I vividly remember getting it out from the library after school one afternoon...ah! the good old days!!
But time passed and I forgot about this lovely children's book until last month when my Mum, a Reception class teacher, was preparing an assembly based loosely around 'Happy Birthday, Moon!' She asked me what I thought about the book and in an instance, all the memories came back....
The ... ...and is square-sized (about 30x30cm) and has a picture of a bear (the main character within the story) looking up at the moon of the title. There's a lot of blue on the cover (well I guess there would be; its night-time after all!) and parents can immediately tell that this will be a completely innocent tale from the picture itself.
It is available from all good bookshops and it costs about £5 (the cheapest I found was on Amazon where second hand ...

Silverfin
Review of Silverfin: A James Bond Adventure (Young Bond) - Charlie Higson by
rowbot23
Advantages: Everything is brilliant!
Disadvantages: You can't put the book down
This book is written by Charlie Higson who also writes screenplays and adult thriller novels, as well as a performer and co-creator of the fast show. Using the idea of Ian Flemings Books about a spy called "Bond. James Bond" he has created a fantastic book about James bond when he was younger and not a spy. Before the name became a legend. Before the boy became the man. Meet Bond. James Bond. The book has 372 pages full of excitement and thrills ... ...in the Scottish Highlands, James Bond is back at Eton, where he has joined the risk-taking Danger Society. Summer vacation is on the horizon and James is looking forward to the school trip to the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia, and the opportunity to spend some time with his reclusive cousin Victor. But all is not as it appears. James soon discovers that the seemingly peaceful island harbors some strange secrets. Before long, Victor's house ...

eldest review
Review of Eldest - Christopher Paolini by
4rfvgyhnjik
Advantages: brilliant book
Disadvantages: long
Eldest opens with Eragon looking upon the battlefield of Tronjheim. It has been three days since the battle has been won, three days since Eragon killed the Shade Durza. But the mood is bleak, there is no rejoicing over the victory. The stronghold of the dwarves and the Varden - Farthen Dur is littered with bodies. So many have been killed and the battlefield is so wet with blood that it soaks through the soles of Eragon's boots. The battle is over ... ...While Eragon was essentially simplistic, Eldest is layered with other themes and multiple narratives. The writer also shows his skill in holding all of them together and blending them in the end for the climax.
Nasuada, with Eragon's support, takes her father's place leading the Varden. She decides to send Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, to Ellesméra where the elves will train them further in the arts of magic and war so that he can eventually be ...
