Are You Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf?
Review of Beware of the Storybook Wolves - Lauren Child by belfin

Advantages: Ingenious slant on the favourite fairy stories
Disadvantages: none

***Background*** Most parents will be aware of Lauren Child these days, or at the least the characters, Charlie and Lola, that she has made household names with our children. She has also written and illustrated many other storybooks too and this is one of those. ***The Story*** The story begins with a little boy called Herb, being read a bedtime story by his mother. "Sometimes it was about a big wolf who terrified little girls and their grandmothers ...
...You could tell from the picture that toothpaste had never been on his shopping list." This is Herb's favourite story and he loves the picture on the back of the book with a wolf that has an eye patch. Herb insists that his mother take the book downstairs every night because he is scared of the storybook wolves but one night she forgets and the story continues with the appearance of the storybook wolves turning up in Herb's bedroom. This is very ... Read review

But Excuse Me.... Whose Book Is It?
Review of But Excuse Me That is My Book - Lauren Child by neenn

Advantages: Popular characters with a humurous element.
Disadvantages: None

...7 years with an 'annoying' but lovable younger sister called Lola. The creator of Charlie and Lola, Lauren Child has created quite a lot of books in a short space of time, some of which I have listed below: ~ I absolutely must do colouring-in now! ~ I am not sleepy and I will NOT go to bed. ~ Snow is my favourite and my best. ~ am TOO absolutely small for school ~ Whoops! But it wasn't me. ~ The Story ~ The story is told by Charlie who introduces ...
...great and extremely very interesting". But Lola can't find the book, even after Charlie suggests that they look in the section of books beginning with 'B'. Lola becomes increasingly desperate and louder, despite Charlie's requests to keep quiet and his suggestion that perhaps someone else has taken the book from the library. He even tries to interest his little sister in other books ranging from mountains and pixies to books about Romans and even ... Read review

a great book
Review of Bad Habits - Bebette Cole by jo1l

Advantages: well written and illustrated
Disadvantages: none that I have found

Bad habits by Babette Cole tells the story of Lucretzia Crum who is a very naughty girl with disgustingly bad habits! The book shows how bad Lucretzia is and then goes on to show how she was finally tamed! By the end of the book Miss Crum is a civilized angel! There is a great part in the book when the parents behave like monsters and steal all the presents at Lucretzia's birthday party in order to shock her into being nice. The book will appeal ... Noughts and Crosses
Review of Noughts And Crosses - Malorie Blackman by wantaratgirl

Advantages: Lots of interesting and thoughtful plots to throw you.
Disadvantages: Can get rather slow in the middle.

I have rated this book 4/5 star. It is a deep and meaningful book all about apartheid. It is a reverse of the British apartheid in South Africa, as Sephy and Callum (main characters) live in a world where white people are second best and black people are rich and powerful. This is a very compelling book. It is not to be read if you are looking something light and cheerful. I would recommend this book to anyone in their teens to adults as it is not ... Read review

On Cloud Nine
Review of Mr Daydream - Roger Hargreaves by MI9to5

Advantages: Lovely character
Disadvantages: N/A

Mr Daydream is another Mr Men story from the Mr Men Collection written by Roger Hargreaves, which contains 46 books. Mr Daydream is number 13 in the series and is a pale blue cloud shaped character with a very broad grin. This is the picture of him that is one the front of the book, which is itself small square and white. Mr Daydream's name is then printed above this picture in bold block capitals. On turning the book over you can then see smaller ...
...format as all the other Mr Men stories with writing on the left hand side of the book and colourful pictures on the right. The pictures are extremely bright and cartoon like and so ensure a child's attention is captured throughout the duration of the story but the writing itself although their isn't much of it making the books great for bedtime, it can be rather small. The book itself is a story about Mr Daydream and this is exactly how the story ... Read review
