I wish a teddy bear would land in my playpen!!
Review of Bear - Mick Inkpen by
neenn
Advantages: Children love the idea of a 'real life' teddy bear
Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...kind of squeak a teddy bear landed in the boy's sister's playpen!!
At first he thinks it's just a toy teddy bear until it grabs Sophie's drink and biscuit.............how amazing would that be for an adult, never mind a child!!
Anyway when the bear climbs out of the playpen the little boy hides him amongst his other toys and warns his baby sister not to say anything despite the fact that she hasn't got passed the 'gah gah' stage of speech!
The ... ...the blame.
When the bear is taken to school, the other children are desperate to be the boys friend, so impressed they are by his 'real life' teddy...........well wouldn't you be?
They all want to go back to the boy's house and play with the bear..............but, nightmare, the bear doesn't come back with the toy car they put him on.
Catastrophe......Sophie throws a wobbler and will not go to sleep without the bear. Later that night the children ...

Can you find Billy's Beetle?
Review of Billy's Beetle - Mick Inkpen by
neenn
Advantages: Great illustrations and storyline. Holds children's attention
Disadvantages: None
...fabulous children's author and in Billy's Beetle he has achieved the high quality set by all of his books.
~ The Story ~ When Billy's beetle escapes from its matchbox the hunt begins to find the beetle.
Billy first asks a girl if she has seen his beetle. When her reply is no, Billy moves on with the girl in tow when along comes a man with a sniffy dog. The sniffy dog digs deep underground and finds a hedgehog, 2 spiders, some worms and a worm, ... ...beetle but by this time, Billy's interest in his beetle has been surpassed by them coming across a furry caterpillar. Like all young children, Billy is easily distracted by this new little minibeast and wanders off unbeknown to the others until .......... the girl realises that they have found the beetle, but lost BILLY!
There then proceeds a short hunt for Billy.......the sniffy dog runs along on his extendable lead until he comes across a little ...

Noughts and Crosses
Review of Noughts And Crosses - Malorie Blackman by
wantaratgirl
Advantages: Lots of interesting and thoughtful plots to throw you.
Disadvantages: Can get rather slow in the middle.
I have rated this book 4/5 star. It is a deep and meaningful book all about apartheid. It is a reverse of the British apartheid in South Africa, as Sephy and Callum (main characters) live in a world where white people are second best and black people are rich and powerful. This is a very compelling book. It is not to be read if you are looking something light and cheerful. I would recommend this book to anyone in their teens to adults as it is not ...

On Cloud Nine
Review of Mr Daydream - Roger Hargreaves by
MI9to5
Advantages: Lovely character
Disadvantages: N/A
Mr Daydream is another Mr Men story from the Mr Men Collection written by Roger Hargreaves, which contains 46 books. Mr Daydream is number 13 in the series and is a pale blue cloud shaped character with a very broad grin. This is the picture of him that is one the front of the book, which is itself small square and white. Mr Daydream's name is then printed above this picture in bold block capitals. On turning the book over you can then see smaller ... ...format as all the other Mr Men stories with writing on the left hand side of the book and colourful pictures on the right. The pictures are extremely bright and cartoon like and so ensure a child's attention is captured throughout the duration of the story but the writing itself although their isn't much of it making the books great for bedtime, it can be rather small. The book itself is a story about Mr Daydream and this is exactly how the story ...

There's a What in Where?
Review of There's a Wocket in My Pocket - Dr. Seuss by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Fun, easy to read Dr Seuss Book
Disadvantages: None
There's A Wocket in my Pocket is a wonderful book from Dr Seuss. It is a yellow back book which is designed for young reader. The cover of the book is yellow with a fun picture of a boy with a funny looking green creature sticking out of his back pocket. It has a bright red border around the outside. The back cover of the book is also yellow and has a list of other books available in the yellow back collection. Not sure what the picture is which ... ...of this book so please ignore it. The story starts by asking if you ever had a feeling there was a wasket in your basket, or a nureau in your bureau? The story then goes on to move around the house with the boy and showing other rooms with funny legs or creatures hiding in place. Through out the book there is a rhyming theme and the name of the creature rhymes with the place it is hiding, for example, a jertain in the certain, a zlock behind the ...
