Review of The Copy Crocs - David Bedford by imogen49

Advantages: good story, lovely pictures, understandable message
Disadvantages: want more adventures

...matter what he does, all the other crocodiles copy him - every time! What can he do to escape the copy crocs? Then if he does escape them……will he still have as much fun? This is the synopsis of a charming little children's book. It follows a crocodile as he tries to escape the close proximity of his fellow crocodiles so he can express his own individuality and have his own space. But they always follow and copy him, which he finds most annoying. ...
...imitate his sister's voice when the crocodile was telling off his friends. Perhaps I am not a very good mimic. However, on talking about it afterwards he did demonstrate a good understanding of the events. Maybe it also really needs to be read to his sister, even though she is a bit old for this book now. This is because of the way the story pans out. In the end, after making up fun games for himself such as gliding on a log on the river or climbing ... Read review

What's The Time?
Review of Tell the time with Miffy - Dick Bruna by neenn

Advantages: Great for learning about time and there is a clock with movable hands!
Disadvantages: None

...but a few!! ~ Tell the Time with Miffy ~ This is a great book. It's hardcover and there is a clock with movable hands on it that can be seen through a cut out circle on each page, enabling children to move the hands to show the time for each page. It begins with Miffy waking up at 7 o'clock and it's time to get dressed. At 8 o'clock, Miffy has breakfast. At 9 o'clock, miffy goes to nursery. And so the day progresses with something happening ...
...for Miffy to go to bed. (Who can get there children off to bed at 6pm!!) ~ Illustrations ~ The illustrations are extremely simple and there isn't a great deal going on in them but what makes the book so appealing to young children is that each page has a vibrant, rich coloured background and the figures of Miffy and her friends at nursery really stand out. ~ Style and Format ~ The best feature of this book is the fact that the time can be changed ... SHE'S TALKING ABOUT MY DAUGHTER
Review of There's A Monster In My House - Deborah Blackburn by GraingerN

Advantages: short story, excellent pictures
Disadvantages: -

...gift received a book entitled: There's a monster in my house, written by Deborah Blackburn. With my tail between my legs I have to say up until now I've never heard of this author, but seeing as though it was a freebie and my daughter loves books I was grateful to receive such a gift. This edition was produced for The Book People Ltd. published by Collins Educational and the excellent illustrations by Doffy Weir. It is a first reader book with ...
...having read it (endless times, lol) is just right. The book is made up of 16 pages with large illustrations filling 3/4 of the page and 1-2 sentences of bold text on each. The story is about two young sisters with the eldest going through the terrible two's and constantly teasing the baby, namely when their mum has left the room. Like any youngster given the chance she empties the cupboards, throws toys, climbs on the furniture, gets messy with ... Read review

Review of Silverfin: A James Bond Adventure (Young Bond) - Charlie Higson by rowbot23

Advantages: Everything is brilliant!
Disadvantages: You can't put the book down

This book is written by Charlie Higson who also writes screenplays and adult thriller novels, as well as a performer and co-creator of the fast show. Using the idea of Ian Flemings Books about a spy called "Bond. James Bond" he has created a fantastic book about James bond when he was younger and not a spy. Before the name became a legend. Before the boy became the man. Meet Bond. James Bond. The book has 372 pages full of excitement and thrills ...
...in the Scottish Highlands, James Bond is back at Eton, where he has joined the risk-taking Danger Society. Summer vacation is on the horizon and James is looking forward to the school trip to the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia, and the opportunity to spend some time with his reclusive cousin Victor. But all is not as it appears. James soon discovers that the seemingly peaceful island harbors some strange secrets. Before long, Victor's house ... Read review

eldest review
Review of Eldest - Christopher Paolini by 4rfvgyhnjik

Advantages: brilliant book
Disadvantages: long

Eldest opens with Eragon looking upon the battlefield of Tronjheim. It has been three days since the battle has been won, three days since Eragon killed the Shade Durza. But the mood is bleak, there is no rejoicing over the victory. The stronghold of the dwarves and the Varden - Farthen Dur is littered with bodies. So many have been killed and the battlefield is so wet with blood that it soaks through the soles of Eragon's boots. The battle is over ...
...While Eragon was essentially simplistic, Eldest is layered with other themes and multiple narratives. The writer also shows his skill in holding all of them together and blending them in the end for the climax. Nasuada, with Eragon's support, takes her father's place leading the Varden. She decides to send Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, to Ellesméra where the elves will train them further in the arts of magic and war so that he can eventually be ... Read review
