Do you remember your first wobbly tooth?
Review of My Wobbly Tooth Must Not Ever Never Fall Out - Lauren Child by
kingfisher111
Advantages: fun story and pictures
Disadvantages: none!
...do not ever NEVER want my wobbly tooth to fall out. I need it!' Charlie and his friend Marv try to explain what it is like to have a tooth fall out and the fact that the baby teeth need to go to make way for the grown up ones. Marv says it's like mooses getting new antlers. Lola is not happy about this likeness at all and states very firmly - 'But I am not a moose!'
However, Lola's attitude about wanting to keep her wobbly tooth for ever starts ... ...always bring a smile to my face, particularly as I can almost hear my daughter saying the same sorts of words. I really think that Lauren Child has an ear for the way children speak and she replicates this so well.
There are also many things that you start to recognise once you have read a few Charlie and Lola books. These include the wonderful illustrations on every page - sometimes hand drawn pictures mixed with occasional photos. A lot of the ...

Dress Your Best!
Review of Maisy Dresses Up - Lucy Cousins by
neenn
Advantages: Very popular with young children
Disadvantages: No lift-the-flap opportunities
Maisy is a sweet little white mouse, with a pink tail, nose, ears and paws.
She isn't a 'regular' sort of mouse as she wears clothes, sleeps in a bed, brushes her teet and much, much more!
The books in this series really appeal to young children, as Maisy does everything that they can relate to.
~ The story ~
Not surprisingly, this book is all about Maisy dressing up, a pastime that is very popular with pre-school children.
The story begins ... ...the reader then realises that Maisy has made a zebra costume and the party begins!!
~ Illustrations ~
I am a big fan of the Lucy Cousin's illustrations in the Maisy series of books.
They are bright, large, simple and bold. The outlines of each character or object is in thick black pen and the rest is coloured in, in rich, vibrant colours.
The backgrounds are also very bright, not the bog standard white that is in so many children's books.

My completely best story collection
Review of My Completely Best Charlie and Lola" Story Collection (Charlie & Lola) - Lauren Child by
sarahbarrow
Advantages: Alluring to children and adults alike.
Disadvantages: None!
My completley best story collection is a beautifuly written collection of stories. The lola character is as alluring as your own child so often i hear my daughter talking in the same manner, this makes it easier for your child to relate to all the topics used in the stories. It is also so refreshing to get to read the all important bedtime story and not be bored to tears but actually find yourself laughing along as sincerely as your child. I rated ... ...best i have bought for my daughter in a long time. The illustrations are unique using the whole page with beautiful pictures, bright colours and mixing actual pictures with the animated characters. I feel this collection is a must for any child with a thirst for knowledge and laughter as lola would say " this book is probably the most best book in the whole wide world!" ...

What colour is this?
Review of Maisy's Colour Collection - Lucy Cousins by
neenn
Advantages: Helps children learn their colours.
Disadvantages: None but I would have liked more colours to have been included.
...The Maisy Books ~
Maisy's Colour Collection is a picture book from Lucy Cousins' very popular series of books about Maisy, a little white mouse with a pink nose, tail and paws.
Lucy Cousins is a great author and illustrator and seems to have a real knack for knowing what appeals to young children.
All of her Maisy books are aimed at pre-school children and contain elements that are familiar to little ones as well as being great educational tools!
... ...but a few!
~ Maisy's Colour Collection ~
This book doesn't really have a storyline. It's aim is to help children learn about colours and the names of objects.
On the first page we meet Maisy who is driving the RED tractor. There are then a host of objects relating to the colour red, dotted around the page, e.g. tomatoes, apples, ladybirds, a red wheelbarrow etc with the names of each object clearly written underneath them.
The following colours ...

Is It Christmas Already?!
Review of Maisy's Christmas Eve - Lucy Cousins by
neenn
Advantages: Very popular character
Disadvantages: No Lift-the-flap opportunities
...of varying sorts!
- Maisy's Christmas Eve -
The story is unsurprisingly set on Christmas Eve where thick snow has fallen on Maisy's house as well as those of her four friends.
All of them were invited to Maisy's house so off they travelled in varying ways, some with snowshoes others on a sledge.
It was cold outside and the friends hurried in to the house to warm themselves, wrapping presents, making mince pies and paper chains when they suddenly ... ...They all go back to Maisy's to sing carols and enjoy the rest of Christmas Eve.
- Illustrations -
I'm a big fan of Lucy Cousins' illustrations in the series of books about Maisy.
They are bright, large, simple and very bold which greatly appeals to very young children. The outlines of each character or object is in thick black pen and the rest is coloured in with rich, vibrant colours.
- Style and Format -
There is more text in this book than ...
