Well Worth The Money
Review of Flyte (Septimus Heap) - Angie Sage by Marley123456

Advantages: Gripping Story Line
Disadvantages: Cant Put It Down!

Flyte is another one of the amazing books written by Angie Sage. This spellbinding book is Book two of the Septimus Heap chronicles. This Book lives up to all of my expectations. In this story Septimus is the apprentice to the Extraordinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand. Jenna, the Princess is one of his best friends. Marcia is having problems with a Darke Shadow that follows her around everywhere. She has to build a special cabinet in order to capture ...
...recruits the help of Professor Van Klampff but he can only build a piece at a time very slowly. Marcia is very frustrated by this but what can she do. Then Jenna is kidnapped by none other than Septimus' older brother Simon. Jenna can't believe that Simon kidnapped her and all because of jealousy because he felt he should be the apprentice. How can Septimus get Jenna back and how can Jenna get away from Simon? The problem is nobody believes that ... Read review

Fast or Slow?
Review of Faster, Faster! Nice and Slow! - Nick Sharratt by neenn

Advantages: A great book about opposites, brightly illustrated.
Disadvantages: None

I bought this book for the nursery children in my school when I was assigned a task of discussing opposites. ♠♠♠ The book ♠♠♠ This book is a simple introduction to opposites, explained by a little boy and girl, Nick and Sue. The two characters begin by introducing themselves. They introduce a range of opposites which I shall outline below: ‘We’re up above’ ….. ‘We’re down below’. For this double page spread, ...
...and in a submarine for down below. ‘ A noisy dog’…… ‘A quiet cat’. Nick has the boisterous noisy dog out for a walk, whilst Sue is sitting calmly on a large chair with a sleeping cat on her knee. ‘This road’s bumpy’……. ‘This road’s flat’. Sue is driving a car (odd when she’s only about 5 years old, but we won’t go there!) on a very bumpy, hilly road, whilst Nick is driving a car on a flat road. Get the picture?? The book takes this format with ... Read review

Mr Fox will thrill and amaze you!
Review of Fantastic Mr Fox - Roald Dahl by britum2000

Advantages: Do you want to hear you 5-7 year olds ask for more?
Disadvantages: Do you want to re-visit childhood?

...told. The story of Fantastic Mr Fox is the stuff of magic and enormous excitement for a typical 5 to 7 year old. Whether you are a parent with a book at bedtime or have the privilege of reading to a larger group, this book is a winner every time. As we shall see, it is a simple story of a hero and three villains that will have children punching the air and shouting 'Yes!' at the tops of their voices. Trust me; I have had the pleasure to witness ...
...the noble, the clever, the Fantastic Mr. Fox. Our young loyalties are defined from the start; after all, how could you cheer for a man named Bunce who eats his doughnuts stuffed with mashed goose livers? As one might expect, the farmers in this story come out smelling like ... well, what farmers occasionally do smell like. This early Roald Dahl adventure is great for reading aloud to five to seven year olds, who will be delighted to hear that Mr. ... Read review

Mums need a little time alone, don't they?
Review of Five Minutes Peace - Jill Murphy by denella

Advantages: Fun story, great illustrations
Disadvantages: Mum is so stressed.

...to the bathroom to get five minutes' peace from 'you lot'. The children immediately ask to come along, but she firmly tells them to stay downstairs. Mum runs herself a bath and pours a cup of tea. She is in heaven, soaking in the suds, but it doesn't last for long. Her son Lester barges in and asks if he can play her a tune on his recorder. Mum is not amused, but of course she gives in and Lester plays 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' more than just ...
...to the kitchen for her five minutes' peace. Do you think she gets it? You'll have to read the book to find out. This is a picture book for very young children who are highly unlikely to understand that Mum needs a few minutes to herself now and again, and it might just do the trick of helping them to realise this. Although she is thinking of herself, the mother elephant here does encourage her children, allowing one to play a musical instrument ... Read review

How Fat Is Your Cat?
Review of Fat Cat - Sue Graves by neenn

Advantages: Great for rhyme and emergent readers.
Disadvantages: Not ideal for a large group.

...Very simply, Pat has a fat cat who sleeps all day on his mat. One day Pat spies a rat on her hat and demands that her fat cat does something about it! Too fat and lazy to move, the cat just 'sat and sat' so it was up to Pat to chase the rat with a bat! Unfortunately Pat trips and lands on her cat who becomes a 'flat cat!' So as you can see, the story is full of rhyming phonetic words. - Style, Format and Educational Values - This is quite a large ...
...contains the book part, the other half (which is forms the back, thicker card) shows the 8 main CVC rhyming words from the story alongside pictures of the items / things. At the bottom of this section there is a wheel turning with a large 'at' shown. As the wheel is turned the word can be changed to show words such as cat, fat, mat, hat, flat etc... In other words it's an interactive letter wheel! The text is very large and simple enough for emergent ... Read review
