Gruesome Groosham Grange!
Advantages: Excellent Characters, storyline and descriptions Disadvantages: It's difficult to put down!
This book is a must read for all children, but not when they are too young! But be warned, once they start reading they'll be hooked!
I first read this book at the age of ten and instantly prompted my sister to do the same. My sister has never really been one for reading, until she read this, now she can't stop! This book has one of those great storylines which although you know it's been made up, does seem in places possible. O.K, so maybe the ... ...running over the mother, but it had me laughing for days!
In this book, we follow a young boy, David who has been expelled from his super posh boarding school to a new school for which the prospectus mysteriously arrives. His parents, desperate to get rid of him instantly decide it is the school for him and he is packed off straight away. From the moment he is collected however he knows something is wrong and makes it his mission to find out what ...

Changing Places=Changing Faces
Advantages: An excellent, light humoured read Disadvantages: None
The Switch is an amazing book that makes you reflect on your own circumstances. It's about a wealthy boy who's control freak parents want him under watch day and night. It's this that drives him to one night wish that he was another person. The next morning, he wakes up to discover himself not in a georgian mansion but in a grotty stinking caravan in Great Yarmouth covered in dirt.
He has changed places with another boy and this is now his punishment. ... ...and finds himself being helped by his real wealthy father's charity. He finds that this charity carries out illegal testing on homeless kids and it makes him realise that his real father is an evil, spineless man.
This is a really good read, and parts of it are extremely funny. Suitable for children and adults even of all ages. ...

Grannies are Evil!
Advantages: This book is fantastic, mainly because of its witty jokes Disadvantages: There are none
...of them reasons was his Granny whom was the most evil Grandma ever and throughout the story she kills 2 innocent people and nearly killed her own Grandson. After many scenarios of Granny being unpleasant to her Grandson she finally gets him alone after the parents go out for a little skiing trip (just after Granny secretively killed the nanny and the gardener). She takes him to a hotel where there is an awards ceremony for Grannies (called the Global ... ...the family should enjoy. The Granny in the book really shows the reader how Grannies should not behave, with her murderous ways, disgusting habits and her awful food, such as vile cream cheese. It also shows the reader how life can be tough for a boy even if you’re really rich. Also the author (Anthony Horowitz) has won a number of awards, most from his best-selling book Alex Rider Adventures. His other books include "The Falcon Malteaser", "The ...

Growing up is hard to do
Advantages: Genuinely honest look at a teenage boy growing up Disadvantages: May be overlooked due to the dynamic novels of today
The novel Buddy is suitable for readers aged 10-16 and has been frequently used in secondary schools as a class reader. However, adults may find it entertaining and may like to read it also. It is a good novel with the availability of two sequels as well as a drama and a film based on the sequel Buddy's song (with Roger Daltrey as Buddy's dad and Chesney Hawke as Buddy himself with the infamous song "One and Only")
Nigel Hinton is a confirmed novelist ... ...is easy to see why. Buddy is a realistic look at social issues today without becoming too heavy.
Buddy Clark is the main character and is growing up in a house with very little money with his Buddy Holly loving Teddy Boy father and his increasingly dissatisfied mother. After Buddy steals some money for a school trip and his mother leaves home, the story revolves around Buddy's trying to make sense of the world around him.
Despite being written ...

A kestrel for a knave by Barry Hines is a brilliant book which makes you think of how something so little can be so precioous to someone else. It is about a boy called Billy who endures a miserable life at home at school where he is bullied by family members and teachers at school. He finds something he can finally relate to and that is a hawk, he trains and a hawk gives him a purpose in life one which he lacked, as the book concludes so does his ...
