Phonics can be fun!
Review of Make-A-Word Magnets - Lorraine Horsley by neenn

Advantages: Lots of educational values, fun illustrations.
Disadvantages: Magnets difficult to initially remove and no storage space!

...far made up of: ~ Make-a-word magnets ~ Sounds and letters ~ Wipe clean writing ♦♦♦ What do the publishers say about the book? ♦♦♦ ~ a playful introduction to reading ~ aimed at pre-school children ~ helps to teach phonic letter sounds ~ builds first reading skills ~ encourages hands-on learning ♦♦♦ The book ♦♦♦ - Style and Format - This is almost like a board book, ...
...standard board books on the market, however the pages are thicker than paper pages thereby making it ideal for pre-school children as there is far less chance of rips and damage. Turn over the front cover and there is a slot from which the magnets can be taken, that is, you can see the magnets through part of the front cover and they are stored in a little pouch. I hasten to add that these are very tricky to get out as the section is too small and ... Read review

Fab book for young teenagers
Review of Mercy's Birds - Linda Holeman by molelover

Advantages: Great story
Disadvantages: was sad to finish it!

Mercy’s Birds by is a 208 page paperback novel for children in the age 11-13 range. It costs 4.99. It has a distinctive cover that is quite turquoise/blue with a face on it and a purple stripe along the top. This book is a great story for any teenage readers, and is written in a very truthful style which is instantly appealing. Basically it is a story about friendship and about overcoming some of the dysfunctional family problems and stresses ...
...to cope with. It is the powerful story of a teenage girl misfit and the friendships that help her to gradually open up and begin to accept help from other people. Mercy is nearly sixteen, a loner and a misfit, or at least that’s how she likes to appear — she dyes her hair black and dresses in black, but the image she portrays doesn’t fool everyone in the book. Her mother is depressed and her eccentric aunt, Maureen Grapko is a ... Read review

...to write to much as its only a short story and i will spoil it. The pictures in the book are lovely and the detail is great the child can see clearly what's going on if they cant read and is looking at the book by themselves. I love this book as it helps children realise that its not all that bad to go into hospital and have a operation so if your child is going in to hospital i think this book is a must as it will help them to stop being so worried ... Dark Vs Light
Review of The Spook's Battle (Wardstone Chronicles) - Joseph Delaney by slik321

Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: just want more and more

...to live.... well not really. The spooks battle is the fourth books by Joseph Delaney in his exuberantly rich children's series, the Wardstone chronicles. The series follows the life of young Tom Ward who is the seventh son of a seventh son and is sent by his mam and dad to join John Gregory who is an old and experienced spook (a spook is someone who battles the dark e.g. witches and Bogart's) to teach him the trade. As you may have already rightly ...
...force to be reckoned with. The Spooks Battle is the fourth book in this originally simple story yet so superbly written. It is set in the County, (in a BBC interview the author revealed that "In truth, that county is Lancashire") if you would like to read the profile of Joseph Delaney you can copy the link beneath into your web browser and take a gander for yourself. http://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/content/articles/2007/07/09/josephdela neyfeature.shtml ...
