a fantastic twist on a traditional fairy tale
Review of Seriously Silly Stories Collection - Laurence Anholt by deeleybopper

Advantages: witty, laugh out loud, loved by children
Disadvantages: wish they were colour pictures

If you want a great story or set of stories to read, to children 6 and above, then I can highly recommend these books. fabulously written by Laurence Anholt, these stories take well known and loved fairy tales, and twist them on their head, giving a great contemporary twist. and they are great value for money - very affordable with pocket money. for example...in Little Red Riding Wolf, the villan of the story is NOT the wolf, but its the big bad ...
...animals of the forest, and she loves nothing better than picking on our hero - Wolfie...or as the author calls him "cutesy wolfie cub!" my class of 6 and 7 year olds absolutely howled and roared with this story, and let out an almighty cheer when the hero of the story changes the big bad girlie for the better. and the hat the wolf wears had me in hysterics too! The pictures are truly brilliant - I can compare it to the simspons in that you look ... Read review

The Animals Went In Two By Two!
Review of Animals Animals All Around - Catherine, Laurence Anholt by neenn

Advantages: Teaches young children about lots of different animals
Disadvantages: None

...found that books relating to animals are generally always a 'hit' with the majority of children and this book is no exception. ~ The book ~ It begins with: ' Animals, animals all around, high in the sky and low on the ground. In the tops of trees, in rivers and seas, even deep down underground. Which animals can YOU see?' Following on from this are examples of all different kinds of animals: * Animals have all kinds of marks; spots, stripes, ...
...prickly, slimy and rough * Animals make all kinds of noises ~ e.g. lions roar, frogs croak, horses neigh, elephants trumpet, cows moo etc.. * Baby animals ~ This gives the names of a lot of baby animlas such as cygnets, puppies, calves, cubs etc * Animals move in different ways; jump, crawl, swim, climb and fly. * Speeds of animals; fast like cheetahs or slow like sloths etc.. * What do animals eat? * Some animals would make good pets, some ... Noughts and Crosses
Review of Noughts And Crosses - Malorie Blackman by wantaratgirl

Advantages: Lots of interesting and thoughtful plots to throw you.
Disadvantages: Can get rather slow in the middle.

I have rated this book 4/5 star. It is a deep and meaningful book all about apartheid. It is a reverse of the British apartheid in South Africa, as Sephy and Callum (main characters) live in a world where white people are second best and black people are rich and powerful. This is a very compelling book. It is not to be read if you are looking something light and cheerful. I would recommend this book to anyone in their teens to adults as it is not ... Read review

On Cloud Nine
Review of Mr Daydream - Roger Hargreaves by MI9to5

Advantages: Lovely character
Disadvantages: N/A

Mr Daydream is another Mr Men story from the Mr Men Collection written by Roger Hargreaves, which contains 46 books. Mr Daydream is number 13 in the series and is a pale blue cloud shaped character with a very broad grin. This is the picture of him that is one the front of the book, which is itself small square and white. Mr Daydream's name is then printed above this picture in bold block capitals. On turning the book over you can then see smaller ...
...format as all the other Mr Men stories with writing on the left hand side of the book and colourful pictures on the right. The pictures are extremely bright and cartoon like and so ensure a child's attention is captured throughout the duration of the story but the writing itself although their isn't much of it making the books great for bedtime, it can be rather small. The book itself is a story about Mr Daydream and this is exactly how the story ... Read review

There's a What in Where?
Review of There's a Wocket in My Pocket - Dr. Seuss by sewbizzie

Advantages: Fun, easy to read Dr Seuss Book
Disadvantages: None

There's A Wocket in my Pocket is a wonderful book from Dr Seuss. It is a yellow back book which is designed for young reader. The cover of the book is yellow with a fun picture of a boy with a funny looking green creature sticking out of his back pocket. It has a bright red border around the outside. The back cover of the book is also yellow and has a list of other books available in the yellow back collection. Not sure what the picture is which ...
...of this book so please ignore it. The story starts by asking if you ever had a feeling there was a wasket in your basket, or a nureau in your bureau? The story then goes on to move around the house with the boy and showing other rooms with funny legs or creatures hiding in place. Through out the book there is a rhyming theme and the name of the creature rhymes with the place it is hiding, for example, a jertain in the certain, a zlock behind the ... Read review
