Remember to Smile!!
Review of It's lovely when you smile - Sam McBratney by neenn

Advantages: A lovely story with fab illustrations.
Disadvantages: None

...or adult carer. ~ It's Lovely When You Smile ~ Published in 2005, this is far less well known than 'Guess How Much I Love You'. It's all about how important it is to smile and how we have so much more fun and enjoyment when we do. ( I must try to remember that on a bad day!) Little Roo wakes up feeling grumpy, he just doesn't want to play and doesn't know why. His Mum tells him that if he smiles it will cheer him up but he is having none of it! ...
...him up by playing in the leaves, hiding in his favourite hidey-hole and tickling him but none of this makes any difference. So feeling hungry, his Mum puts Roo in her pouch and bounces down towards a wide, muddy hole. In a vain attempt to cheer Roo up Mum was bouncing from side to side and wasn't looking where she was going and you can guess what happened next..... Let's just say that it made Roo smile!! ~ Illustrations ~ The book is illustrated ... Read review

A modern classic.
Review of Goodnight Mister Tom - Michelle Magorian by anaglypta

Advantages: Great story and characters
Disadvantages: No wizards, so you might have to persude non-bookish kids to read it

I bought this book for my godson as an Xmas present recently, I had been itching to do so as soon as I thought he would be able to read it. This was my absolute favourite book as a child. The storyline is set in the early years of the Second World War, and the main character is an evacuee to the countryside. This aspect of the Second World War always interests children as it is about them. The main character, William, is an abused and undernourished ...
...insane mother. He finds himself in the care of Thomas Oakley, a retired country man who has led a secluded and reclusive life since his wife and son died in childbirth. William makes his first ever friends in the country, and forms a very strong relationship with a Jewish boy of the same age called Zach. William, with the help of everyone in the village, especially Tom and Zach, blossoms and discovers a talent for art, quickly catching up educationally ... Read review

The Recruit - Must Read!!!!!
Review of Cherub The Recruit - Robert Muchamore by chrisattrill

Advantages: Intresting, Amazing story line and realistic characters
Disadvantages: None!

...read. In fact the whole Cherub series are great. Before I read The Recruit I use to hate reading because I always loose intrest in the first chapter, but after reading the first page of the The Recruit I got "addicted" to the book, and then carried on the reading the whole Cherub series. I think the book is so good because its realistic. We could all see this happening and that is why its such a brilliant book. Its has emense detail and of course ...
...I would reconmend the Cherub series to anyone. Espeacily the people who find it difficuit to pick up a book and finish it. What is it about? Meet James & the gang for the first time. CHERUB: The Recruit tells James Adams' story from the day his mother dies. Read about his transformation from a couch potato into a skilled CHERUB agent. Meet Lauren, Kyle, Kerry and the rest of the cherubs for the first time and learn how James foiled the biggest ... Read review

Private Peaceful
Review of Private Peaceful - Michael Morpurgo by readalot

Advantages: easy read with lots of interesting facts about world war 2
Disadvantages: none

A heart-warming story which instantly draws you into the life of the two brothers and their family. Set at the time of World War Two this book is one that you can't put down. The book is aimed at a year 9 boy (3rd year at secondary school) but have also found it popular with younger boys. Michael Morpurgo is every child's favourite author and I have seen this book extremely popular this year in the school where I work. A sad but all too realistic ... Read review
