...well known recent film of Nanny McPhee, screen played by Emma Thompson, was inspired by these tales of a no-nonsense nanny called Nurse Matilda. In turn, this may have been inspired by the Mary Poppins books but it is not mentioned anywhere and as it is long time since I read those books I can't really judge the point. ...continually have to replace their nanny as the children's behaviour always results in the latest incumbent leaving. Eventually Nurse Matilda arrives and she informs the Brown parents that they will be taught seven lessons. This takes place over the course of the book and is reminiscent of the film.
