BREATH TAKING
Review of Stone Cold - Robert Swindells by
kayzschick
Advantages: Truthful (it gives you a very strong incite to lives on the street)
Disadvantages: i ant think of any lol
Stone cold, another excellent book by Robert Swindells. It is a moving but truthful novel. It was a really exciting, gripping book to read. It gave me an in site of what homeless people really go though.
The novel used techniques that really help to put more suspense and feeling into the novel. One of the most used techniques in the novel is short sentences. Swindells makes the story have great suspense in short sentences.
"Oh no lad. Not going ... ...also used to persuade people about something.
I thought that stone cold was a very gripping and emotional novel it really helped me to see how hard it truly is for homeless people. The only problem I had with the book is that I think the ending was rushed. ...

Stargirl
Review of Stargirl - Jerry Spinelli by
Indie_Star
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...shall give you a statement; Stargirl is different. Stargirl is narrated by the character Leo and it focuses on Susan Caraway, a girl more commonly known as, Stargirl. She wore long frilly dresses and retro clothing, she carried a ukulele and her pet rat around with her and she decorated her tables with flowers every single period of every single week. She made birthday cards for children if she saw it was their birthday, he helped the sick and deserving ... ...for no reward. Stargirl became like an addiction to the student body, soon everyone began to sing with her, dance with her, put flowers on their desks and 'the pet shop at the Mica Mall ran out of rats' - she was accepted... for being different. Stargirl made the cheerleading squad - Stargirl was a role model for the female and the male student body. It was a miracle - something they would never had expected. 'The trouble with miracles is, they don't ...

Shark attack!
Review of Sharks (Lift - the-flap) - Peter Scott by
danielalong
Advantages: Age appropriate amount of information
Disadvantages: None
Pop up sharks
Sharks seem to be something which fascinate young children , and recently Little Miss has been a tad obsessed with dinosaurs, so we bought this. The link? She read somewhere that when dinosaurs died out some of the sea creatures who could live in very cold waters lived, and started asking me questions about marine life. Not being an expert, something had to be done. I have always liked usborne books, and this was simple enough for ... ...and life. These are: About Sharks (naturally enough); Hungry Hunters; Baby sharks; Whale sharks; Hammerheads; Speedy sharks; Strange sharks.
Each section is “set” in the ocean, with blue background, and the sharks and other sea creatures and plant life being part of the background. Any information is given in small bite size pieces, small enough for children to read without getting bored, and containing facts they will be interested in – for example, ...

"Sometimes the names are changed...
Review of Squids Will Be Squids - Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith by
ruth_cole
Advantages: Anarchic, subversive dark humour for kids.
Disadvantages: Are you kidding me?!
...to protect the not-so innocent"
For anyone who has ever plumbed the depths of children's literature (and there are some), Jon Scieszka is the kind of name that calls to you from the heavens and pulls you up into the realms of literary happiness. His darkly comic irreverent humour has lined the bookshelves of children for quite a few years now ("The Stinky Cheese Man" has just seen its tenth anniversary) but it was with total surprise that I came ... ...with Burton-esque illustrator Lane Smith, Scieszka has created a set of eighteen wickedly subversive and humanly hysterical fables for children. Working on the premise that "even thousands of years ago people were bright enough to figure out that you could gossip about anybody - as longas you changed their name to something like "Lion" or "Mouse" or "Donkey" first, Scieszka gives a heads up to Aesop and sets off along his merry way...
The only way ...
