The boy in the striped pyjamas : A sad but true story Advantages: It tells the truth about what life was like for some people. Disadvantages: There are none. In my opinion for the looks of the book i think it has an excellent book cover which can give many ideas to what it is about and can be quite upsetting depending on which way you interprit it. I got the book as a birthday present and as i started to read it, it became an obsession as i wanted to find out what happened. It is a real clifhanger at the end and when i finished the book , i sat down for half-an-hour and just thought about it. I did cry ... ...war 2, germany and tells the tale of a young boy and his life living in a new place, his new friend and finally how this story ends. the owl who was afraid of the dark Advantages: nice story Disadvantages: none The owl who is afraid of the dark i about a little owl called plop who is very frightened of the dark but as we all know owls are nocturnal and only hunt in the dark. Plops mom told him there was nothing to be frightened of and before he should make a judgement about something he should find out more about the dark so plop did. Plop spoke to people and animals to see what they thought of the dark and they told him some wanderful storys about the ... ...little girl and all about the stars. Plop learns that there is nothing to be scared of about the dark and decides he will become a night owl after all. Old green eyes is at it again Advantages: A nice short book. Exciting and easy reading for 8 and up Disadvantages: That Demon chappie never learns ! This is the 4th book in the Demon Headmaster series involving Dinah and the members of 'SPLAT' We read through all the demon headmaster books as soon as they were published as they were so exciting and innovative. If you don't already know, the Demon Headmaster is an unemotional and manipulative man who believes 'childhood is a waste of time'. He controls people by hypontising them with very Green eyes which he disguises with tinted glasses. ... ...and is thus known as the Demon Headmaster . He does not agree with play or imagination and thinks that he could do a much better job of running the world than anyone else. Unfortunately he means to do so, one way or another. In this story he is the director of the research Institute studying DNA and you can imagine where that could lead him...or can you? The Very Lazy Ladybird...A book and a CD! Advantages: Lovely story, beautiful illustrations, well read CD, Disadvantages: None! The Very Lazy Ladybird by Isabel Finn and Jack Tickle This is a fantastic little story about a lazy ladybird that sleeps all day and night and so had never learnt to fly. She wakes one day on her leafy resting place and decides she would like to sleep somewhere else…but where could she sleep as she can't fly anywhere? At this point a kangaroo hops past and the lazy ladybird hops into her pouch but decides that she can't sleep there because it is ... ...I won't give away the ending as it is such a fun story to tell especially for the first time as my daughter and I found out when reading this together tonight. She is 6 years old but loves stories that she can read alone like this one, made even easier with the help of the CD accompanied with the book, which I will talk more about in a moment. good book Advantages: very good book Disadvantages: none ...there is a knock at the door. They wonder who on earth it could be. Is it the milkman? No, he's been. Is it the delivery boy? No, he's been too. Is it Daddy? No, it's too early. Sophie opens the door. My word! It's a tiger, and he's angling for an invitation to join them for tea. Of course, Sophie's mum takes it in her stride. In comes the tiger. Sophie thinks he's great. This tiger is gorgeous. Even I think so. He's got a lovely, long, curving tail ... ...greedy too. He eats all the sandwiches. He eats all the buns. He eats all the cakes. He drinks all the milk, tea and juice. Things are beginning to get rather worrying. And that naughty tiger doesn't stop there. He eats Daddy's tea too; right from the saucepans on the stove. He eats all the food in the cupboards and downs all the milk from the bottles. He drinks all the water from the tap. When everything that can be eaten has gone, he leaves.
