Toilet Humour
Review of Who's in the Loo? - Jeanne Willis by
Borg
Advantages: Great fun, hits the spot.
Disadvantages: None
..."Is it a stoat who's making a stink?
Or a pig who's washing his pants
in the sink?"
There, it is a simple plot, and not too taxing. The book was written by Jeanne Willis and Adrian Reynolds did the artwork. Willis has other books to her credit, such as 'The Really Rude Rhino,' and 'Grill Pan Eddie.' I think I will be looking out for more of her books!

They Call It Mellow Yellow
Review of Wobble Bear Say Yellow - Ian Whybrow by
belfin
Advantages: Teaches children about colours
Disadvantages: none
...is the towel, Wobble?
And Wobble laughed and said,
YELLOW!"
All the way through the story Mummy Bear introduces Wobble to different colours but each time she asks him what colour it is, he always replies yellow. Then it is time for him to go to bed and his teddy really is yellow but when his mummy tells him this, he gets very excited and calls everything else in his room yellow too.
She tells him to settle down and go to sleep and the story ends ... ...gave a little sigh.
And Wobble whispered, 'yellow' and he pointed to the sky.
Yes, Wobble whispered, 'yellow' and this time, he was right.
The yellow moon said, 'clever bear' and whispered back…'Goodnight.'"
***The Illustrations***
As with other illustrations by Caroline Jayne Church, they are very clear and precise but the backgrounds have a very textured look to them and this gives them a little bit of added charm and old feel to them.

A most unusual friend
Review of Whiff, or How the Beautiful Big Fat Smelly Baby Found a Friend - Ian Whybrow by
pianos
Advantages: Unusual but wonderful story. Makes you fall in love with a warthog. Great pictures
Disadvantages: none
This unusual story tells of a "beautiful big fat smelly warthog" who has trouble making friends. He goes to tea with the crocodile but the flies that follow him cause the crocodile to freak out and Whiff to get the blame. He gets sent home in disgrace. The same happens when he goes to tea with the monkeys and it looks like he'll never find a friend until he's invited to play by the bird family. As the "tickly quickly flies" came down Whiff prepares ... ...birds love the flies and have a great feed, and Whiff has a friend. This is one of the most unusual stories I've come across, told in rhyme and repetition, and partially in specch bubbles, and was requested as a bedtime story every night for a week by our two year old when he first got it but is equally enjoyed by his much older cousins who read ot themselves. Thoroughly recommended ...

Some things never change
Review of When I Was Little Like You - Jill Paton Walsh, Stephen Lambert by
danielalong
Advantages: Simple book showing changes over time
Disadvantages: Too simple for older children
When I was Little like you
A very sweet book, focusing on the differences and similarities between things in the past and things today, and the relationship between a grandma and grandchild.
~~Story and Illustrations~~
The story starts with Rosie pointing and showing gran the train, and as they sit watching the train travelling through the countryside, the next double page spread shows a steam engine and gran as a little girl; the train is described, ... ...bicycle who sold ice cream when she was a little girl. We are then told of the differences between the fishmonger today and in yesteryear, and the boats, as well as the sweet shop. When gran and Rosie see the surfers, Gran tells Rosie that when she was young, people didn't know how to do that, but simply paddled in the water. They do find one thing which is the same today as it was when Gran was young- the lighthouse, and the two separate pages show ...

Confused...he is!
Review of Webster J. Duck - Martin Waddell by
danielalong
Advantages: Heart warming story
Disadvantages: None
Webster J Duck
A heart warming book by a well known children's author
STORY AND ILLUSTRATIONS
We start with a lovely double page spread showing a lake, and close to the lake, surrounded by reeds is a little blue egg, which holds Webster J Duck "all folded up so he could fit inside".
When Webster stirs, the egg begins to crack, and out he comes- actually he falls out. Undeterred, he stands up, and so begins his quest to find his mum. He wanders ... ...large and friendly looking dog, Webster of course, quacks. In reply, the dog goes "Bow- wow". On the strength of this and being an intelligent kind of chap, Webster J Duck deduces that the dog is not his mother because of course, his mum would make the same sound as him. He does however now think of the dog as the Duck with the waggledy tail.
In this way, he meets a sheep, and a cow. The sheep, in Webster's mind, becomes the woolly duck and the ...
