Review of Mr Skinny - Roger Hargreaves by MI9to5

Advantages: Great story for children
Disadvantages: N/A

The Mr Men collection of books is well loved by children and has been for many years. It contains 46 stories written by Roger Hargreaves and later his son Adam. Mr Skinny is number 35 in the collection. Mr Skinny is a very thin oval shaped yellow character with a tall thin red hat on his head. Mr Skinny also has a green nose and a broad smile. This picture of him can be found on the front of the book along with his name in block, black capitals. ...
...starts with the information that Mr Skinny was extraordinary thin and that if he turned sideways on you could hardly see him. To make matters worse he lived in a place called Fatland where everybody and everything was as fat as could be. Although Mr Skinny lives in Fatland he barely eats anything and has a very small appetite. So one day he decides that he should go and see a doctor about it. The doctor took one look at Mr Skinny and announced that ... Read review

The Amber Spyglass - Spy into impossible worlds
Review of The Amber Spyglass - Philip Pullman by booeymojo

Advantages: A truely imaginative fantasy with something for everyone
Disadvantages: As a childrens book it lacks the depth of language adults may prefer.

The third installment in Pullmans His Dark Materials triolgy cannot fail to delight. Following the final leg of the adventure of Lyra and Will as they discover amazing new worlds and incredible new characters like the tiny Gallivespians, reminiscent of the inhabitants of Jonathan Swifts Lilliput in Gullivers Travels, and the wonderfully peaceful Mulefa who seem to be uncomparible in literature. A magnificent read for adults and children alike as ...
...the reader on a journey through multitudes of worlds including the World of the Dead and the Kingdom of Heaven. The Amber Spyglass is an unmissable joy to read which is truely impossible to put down until the very end and even then promises to be read over and over again. ... Read review

...of Darrell Rivers from her first year to when she finally leaves. Unlike other girls she actually wants to go there and become a success. Teachers and the other students like her but that doesn't mean she is completely perfect. She soon gets herself into trouble and has a firey temper. Darrel is scornful of a timid girl called Mary Lou, and despite rescuing her from being held under the water by a spiteful girl she is in no way interested in becoming ...
...shocked when she receives a bad report from one of her mistresses. It was surprising how one of the other school girls can make mischief and keep her place in class whilst Darrel has to be made a pointed of her bad marks. In a lot of stories it is of no surprise that two of the girls Darrell despises at the beginning of the book turn out to be her closest by the ending. Some of the goings on are slightly out dated and old fashioned compared to ... Read review
