Body Reference Book for Pre-Teen Girls Advantages: Straightforward language, logical explanations, appealing illustrations Disadvantages: The book is American - if you don't like Americanisations you may not like this ...- it is from the American Girl Library - American Girl being a store which sells incredible dolls and pushes good role models on young girls. I have visited the American Girl stores with my daughter in Chicago and New York and liked the ethos of the company but more than this I trusted my friend's judgement. Not long afterwards I was back in the US on holiday and I picked this book up for my daughter to read, and so, at the age of 8, she received ... ...girls in the book. American Girl do seem to push the message that girls need to take care of their bodies and respect them - which is a good message for young girls to grasp at an early age, but they also consider the fact that when it comes to people there is no "one size fits all" way to be and they explain clearly to young girls that everyone is different and there is no "right" way to look, so long as you are taking care of yourself. Get stuck in! Advantages: Lots of stickers, christmas pictures, will appeal to children Disadvantages: Use of animals and not humans, colours are bland ...This sticker book is produced Usborne who make such great stuff for children, and that's a good enough recommendation for me. I always used Usborne text books at school, and I think you can't go wrong with things by such a good company. The cover doesn't strike me as being overly Christmassy, with a christmas tree and then a selection of animals on ice skates... I do think they could have gone for a more Christmassy scene but I think they have tried ... ...the book is aimed at, which is 3 years plus because of the stickers included. The book contains 8 pages of stickers which are stapled in the middle of the book that you can either remove or choose to leave in the book. They feature lovely big and bold stickers which are big enough for young fingers to pick up themselves, and are nice clear and bright pictures as well. Disadvantages: It has to be put away after Christmas. ...order a few things for my son for Christmas. My son has a great love for books as I have been reading to him since he was born, so when I spotted the personalised Christmas books I knew that he would like it and it would be the perfect gift. It is really easy to personalise your own book, the ordering page is very simple and easy to follow with drop down menus for you to fill in the details. A few details are required such as your child’s name, address, ... ...hoped it would be to my liking. It took a couple of weeks to arrive and it was packaged in a bubble wrapped enveloped to keep it protected. The paperback book is a nice size and of a good quality, and the glossy white pages are nice and thick. Christmas is coming - let's get cooking! Advantages: nice recipes, easy to use Disadvantages: none ...very keen to help with the preparations. With this in mind, I bought them the Usborne Christmas Baking for4 Children book and we have been having good fun trying out lots of festive recipes! This lovely book is spiral bound and has 48 pages full of tempting Christmas recipes. It starts off with a contents page and then has a few pages on baking tips before launching into the recipes. These first few pages entitled 'Getting Started' and 'Baking Skills' ... ...things and which part of the oven is the hottest. It also illustrates many of the baking terms that children will need to know such as grating, squeezing and sifting. These explanations are all accompanied by pictures so that your child can see exactly what they should be doing and what the equipment looks like that they should be using. After this section there are eighteen delicious recipes to choose from. Stinking space jokes for your children Advantages: some good oneliners Disadvantages: ? I bought this book of Stinking space jokes by Karen King in my local charity shop . I thought they would my 6 ½ year old grandson would enjoy practicing his reading skills by reading them. This books front cover has a three eyes grinning alien head on a blue background with stars on it . It is a paper back book with 144 pages it has 500 jokes in it. My grandson a fairly good reader quite enjoys this book. The jokes are short and corny. I politely ... ...These jokes are short each one only 8 or ten words then the punch line response 1 to 10 words too. Most of the words are simple 3, 4, 5 letters with the occasional longer word.
