It takes up masses of space on my limited amount of kitchen worktop, you could only possibly want to use it for special occasions so it spends most of its life taking up more space in a cupboard, and it takes ages to clean (if you count all the spills as well as all the bits!)
It's a lovely idea in theory - who needs a fondue set when you can just put your pre-melted chocolate into this fountain, and at the flick of a switch, hey presto - a flowing fountain of cocoa heaven... I have to admit I do love using it, and it looks very impressive. It would make a great gift for a chocoholic - it's just not all that practical!
How does it work? __________________
The only ingredients you need to make your chocolate fountain are chocolate and a little vegetable oil (this helps it to flow, and without it, the chocolate sticks and doesn't run properly as it should.) A little book that came with the machine tells you the proper quantities of chocolate you will need as of course different chocolate bars have different properties - it all depends on whether you are a Green and Blacks fiend or a rather cheaper cadburys's addict (like me!) You pre-melt your chocolate in whatever way you prefer - in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan, and then stir in the oil. Then you simply put the melted chocolate into the base of the fountain and press the on switch - and bingo!
The chocolate is carried to the top of the fountain by a rotating internal shaft which means you don't get any blockages - once it flows, it keeps going smoothly until you have eaten it all! The fountain keeps it warm enough so that it continues to flow.
I find that the motor on this model is quite noisy. A more expensive fountain would probably be quieter and have more features than this one, which is the bog-standard one (although perfectly good!)
Made of stainless-steel, it is however pretty durable and of quite good quality. It comes apart into several pieces, but it is still a bit fiddly to clean as you have to deal with large pieces of metal covered in baked-on chocolate - no attempting to clean it until it is cool!
___________________________________________
The fountain is a big hit for parties - you might like to try dipping strawberries, marshmallows, other fruit pieces or even biscuits to create your own chocolate favourites. If you are feeling very inventive, you could always use it for another kind of sauce like BBQ and dip your dinner in it!
Be warned though - I don't think this particular model would be suitable for very young children who would no doubt want to put their fingers in it rather than just food - the edges are quite sharp despite being covered in melted chocolate. Sadly this means I will get a lot less use out of it than I had hoped for when I initially opened it!
I've saved mine for adult-only parties (I don't mean that the way it sounds, of course!)
-----------------------------------
Overall verdict: A great gift and very trendy at the moment. It's a lot of fun, fascinating to watch, and will make you very popular. But it's a pain to clean, not suitable for young children (in my opinion) and I don't like to dilute my chocolate with oil - even if I cant taste it, I don't want to know it's in there!
Price we paid: £39.95 from www.alt-gifts.com. No power adaptor is needed as this item runs off a standard UK three pin plug (which is included). Size: approx 15" high x 8" wide.
Advantages: An exciting novelty, and delicious! Disadvantages: Messy and hard to clean
...to heat up. Then pre-melted chocolate can be placed in the stainless steel dish at the base of the top of the base. The base itself has a large bowl at the bottom, but this seems to be entirely full of electrics, as the dish to hold the chocolate is deceptively small. However, it can hold over 500g of chocolate, pre-melted, which we have found is more than enough to make a family of 6 all feel perfectly sick!
**How does it work?**
The chocolate ... ...removed to aid cleaning. The chocolate then flows down over the stainless steel tiers to the dish again, which is heated to keep the chocolate molten, and it is then taken back to the top of the fountain and so on (if it isn't intercepted and eaten first!).
**Preparing and using the fountain**
It may be necessary to put oil in the chocolate to obtain the correct flowing consistency for the fountain to work properly, and the amount needed varies ...

I had wanted a chocolate fountain for quite a while but new it was one of those items i wouldnt use every day so didnt want to pay a fortune for it, when i saw this one in the argos store for just £19.99 i couldnt resist buying it.
You have to assemble it yourself but this isnt difficult, it is just a case of putting the fountain pieces into the base and any idiot could do this but if you cant there are full instructions included.
It is easy to ... ...the chocolate and a flow regulator that you can adjust. You do need quite a bit of chocolate to fill this fountain up enough to be used, two large cadbury bars minimum. I was very disapointed with how long this took to heat up so if you are using it after your tea or for a party remember to switch it on well in advance.
It advertises as being easy to clean which it is but you will have to reheat it before cleaning if you dont clean it streight away ...

Advantages: Works well, looks good Disadvantages: Can be messy, slightly wasteful
I recieved this chocolatefountain as a christmas present last year, and i have not stopped using it since!
At the beginning i was a little juboius that it would nt actually flow properly like the picture showed on the front box, but inside was a detailed instruction book of how to gain the correct consistancy for the chocolate.
Once the fountain was assembled, the fun began! It was very simple to connect and instruction book was very helpful. It even had a few recipe ideas, such as BBQ sauce for a bbq, which i am yet to try.....
One problem is that the fountain requires a very large amount of melted chocolate for the fountain to work, and if it is not all used at the end, it either has to be thrown away or stored for another time which is very inconvienent and wasteful.
Another problem that arose, was a large amount ...
This chocolatefountain is very cheap and cheerful. For the price that you pay, it is a good product and very worth while. You can buy this product in Tesco Stores for £27.99, however, this product does ocasionally go on special offer for an excellent £11.99!! Now thats a bargin!!!
They are quite small chocolatefountains. Obviously depending on the chocolate that you use is how quick that it takes to melt. But generally it is a very short and convient period of time.
This product would be brillent at parties/weddings/family events. It's definatly a lot cheaper than hiring one. (You could but a few of these and dot them round the place).
I would certainly recommend this chocolatefountain above more expensive models. ...
Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: Too addictive
The Tesco CF06 ChocolateFountain is a great little fountain.
I bought this for my kids last year as a little surprise for their Christmas, we had been to a wedding a couple of months earlier and this was really their first experience with a chocolatefountain and they loved it but weren't aware that you could get them for the home!
We first used this on Hogmanay as we were having a party, the kids would have had me using it on Christmas day but the amount of chocolate needed really warrants a bit more than just 4 people, unless of course you want to make yourself sick!
You needed around about 800g of Belgian Chocolate. You are advised to use Belgian Chocolate as this is smoother and oilier when melted and less likely to clog the machine. If, however, you would prefer to use ordinary milk chocolate then you are advised to ...
