Advantages: Finds the degree course you want - quick and free! Disadvantages: Need to concentrate when answering questions.
*You only get one chance to choose a degree course so do it properly* is the message we get from school. Having seen the Ucas guide and read (looked at) one prospectus with hundreds more to read I was losing the will to live. But this site sorted it for me - in about 15 minutes! You complete a questionnaire about what interests you - it took less than 5 minutes - and it brings up the courses that are right for you. It chooses these from the 50,000 ......that you get a list of courses that match your interests and other questionnaire results. You can bring in other things like whereabouts you'd like to study, ucas points, type of course. You get some course details but other information can be found on the university website, or ucas - there are links straight to the right page. There's also the other stuff about ucas applications, student life, fees, money and all the rest. Your school has probably ... Read review

This book is very useful when it comes down to choosing which of your six universities to accept. The individual prospectus' will have given you all the the practical information about the rating of your course, and the availability of a place in halls etc, but this book gives you the information and statistics which you dont find anywhere else- male:female, public:state school and the size of the uni. It also gives a more balanced view of the atmosphere ......prospectus. It also has handy info regarding the price of a pint in the union-which is indicative of prices in the local area (if union prices are expensive, you'll need a gold card to go out into civilisation!). This book is quite pricey (14.99), considering you will only use it for a couple of agonising weeks while deciding where to go. While this book was like a bible to me last year, i opted for the library option, rather than forking out for ... Read review
Advantages: a good reference point Disadvantages: superceeded by CD-ROM and internet services.
every person entering the ucas system gets this - thats hundreds of copies per college or sixthform. and reading the other comments you can see guess how thick it is. five years ago, even two, this book was a veritable mine of information for the 17-18 year old poring over it, imagining the thrills of taking bookbinding or calligraphy for three years, but now, with the excellent CD and website, the book is reduntant. using the book, you have to ......you can see if they do your course or not, wheras with the website and CD you can search and the information comes up in seconds. using the website i found universities i had never even heard of, and found courses i would not have been able to find with the book. with all students able to access the internet at home, in colege, at a libary or internetcafe. And if they don't have internet access, they can use a CD rom. i think it would be much wiser ... Read review

...book like this should be the tool i need to make my mind up from the offers i have recieved. However this is not the case. If you read through the book and made a decision on what you had read in the book (foolish) then you would be very disapointed when you got to the Uni. The book is not negative enough, it makes every Uni seem like a great place to be and does not critisize much at all. This is a problem because if you only read the review for ......therefore you may feel that the uni you are investigating is far better than the others in the book. My main problem with this book and the reason i do not recommend it is because some of the Info is just plain wrong. Now the average prospeective student will use this book as a part of their selection process and will believe that this book will give them the lowdown on things they could not find out on Open days or on the Web. The thing is that ... Read review

If you are trying to find a university and a really good course for you, I HIGHLY recommend you visit this website! It takes about 5/10 minutes to answer a few questions which works out your interests. You then answer a few MORE questions (they can get a bit tedious!) and they find you areas of study that they think you would like. THEN...you enter what subjects you do currently, your average grades and where you want to go in the country and what ......pops a list of 'perfect' universities for you! Then you can click on the buttons to find out more about the courses and universities. Magic. The site also offers details on personal statements and UCAS forms which are worth a look at. It has all the details the UCAS CD-Rom offers and more. So well worth a look. ... Read review
