As you may well know "Chosen" is a vampire book, and after the likes of Twilight you may be like "I have had enough of this obssession with 'Twilght' people have" but this book is some what different. Just like 'Twilight' was different in which the vampires could go out in the sun, and wouldnt die from garlic, holy water, steaks through the heart.
Well in "Chosen" P.C Cast twists the idea of a vampire, and becoming a vampire. You don't get bitten you are chosen, which is why it was named this. No one makes you become one it just happens, and to actually become a vampire you have to go through 4 years of training, and you may well die. The vampires do not enjoy the sun very much but they won't die from it.
What I like about this book is that everyone is aware about vampires. They may not like them but everyone knows what they are and who is one. Not because they have seen them be chosen, but all "fledglings" which they are called before they become full grown vampires. Are marked with a crescent moon on their foreheads which are blue in colour. When they become vampires the tattoo on their head changes and grows to form an elabrate pattern on their face which is part of them.
What else is different about these vampires is that they don't need blood. They may suffer blood lust at some point in their change but they don't go around drinking peoples blood, since there is a price to pay for this reason.
So enough about the back story of the book and here is what it is all about:
Zoey is a 16 year old girl who just struggles through normal life. She has a on-off boyfriend who's relationship with her has been a struggle. Her best friend not really fulfilling her best friend duties. So when Zoey is marked everything gets messed up. She is marked in the middle of the hallway while her best -friend stands watching. The thing about vampires is that no one likes them. They are rejects, and if a fledgling is too survive they have to go to the House of Night. Which is a school for fledglings which lets them be around vampires and teaches them everything they need to know. Since that is the only way they can survive the next 4 years. You never know when you might die, it just comes suddenly. So Zoey with her new chosen name Zoey Redbird a descendent of the Cherokees begins her new life. Away from her "religious" step father who is part of the people of the faith, who are not all they seem to be, and her traitorous mother, who has betrayed her motherly duties for her new husband. So now Zoey has to put up with shady characters like Aphrodite and her chronies. The only thing that seems to be working out is Erik but first impressions weren't exactly terrific.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read the next one straight away. Which is very different from the first one. I like that it twists the idea of vampires and gives them a more public appeal. Since the book states that Einstein was a vampire. Just because he was a genius. Making it known that some of the people we all know well who are incredibly smart or beautiful are infact vampires.
So I would recommend this book as not a very big read, but something you will enjoy and want to hear more about.

I guess it had gone okay with Stevie Rae. I mean she had agreed to meet me tomorrow. And ... more
she hadn't tried to bite me which was a plus. Of course the whole trying-to-eat-the-street-person thing was highly disturbing ... Zoey's best friend Stevie Rae...
