Midnight Poison is the fifth addition to the 'Poison' arsenal, this popular and long-running (since 1985) line of fragrances. I haven't yet found a Dior worth adding it to my wardrobe so I tried it out of curiosity. Well this one was quite a surprise!
The bottle
The beautiful, alternating cobalt and midnight blue coloured round opaque glass captures the essense of the Cinderella theme - it is a mysterious, enchanting young girl with light curves wearing her stunning evening gown. It has a round black lid like a black rose bud.
The fragrance
Midnight Poison is a deep and rich infusion of rose, patchouli and amber. It is a quite complex, full-blown composition, which gives out its notes over time changing gradually from one to another, back and forth, while still retaining the same sweet - spicy -woody character.
The notes I can detect are fleety bergamot, oozing rose, patcholi and at the base sweet and soft amber. So what you get is a velvety, slightly powdery spice bomb.. luxurious indeed!
It is a strong essence (eau de parfum) but much much lighter than any other 'Poison'. I mean lighter as in 'heaviness' not as in 'density'. In fact it doesn't resemble any 'Poison'. This perfume has its own character and would deserve its own name. It is floral and oriental, dry and comforting, stimulating and sexy.
Conclusion
The product is marketed towards young women but being and oriental - woody fragrance, it could appeal to a lot wider audience. I recommend you use it occasionally as this perfume is quite powerful due to its long-lasting oils.
