Practical Demonkeeping - Christopher Moore Practical Demonkeeping - Christopher Moore
In Christopher Moore's ingenious debut novel we meet one of the most memorably mismatched ... more
pairs in the annals of literature. The
good-looking one is one-hundred-year-old
ex-seminarian and 'roads' scholar Travis O'Hearn.
The green one is Catch a demon with a nasty habit
of eating most of the people he meets. Behind the
fake Tudor facade of Pine Cove California Catch
sees a four-star buffet. Travis on the other hand
thinks he sees a way of ridding himself of his
toothy travelling companion. The winos neo-pagans
and deadbeat Lotharios of Pine Cove meanwhile have
other ideas. And none of them is quite prepared
when all hell breaks loose.

Humour divine sparks outbursts (with picture!)
Review of Lamb - Christopher Moore by  pgn0

Advantages: Side-splittingly funny
Disadvantages: Sleep deprivation

...gift-bearing travelers who attended Joshua's birth. Let Lamb take you on a journey of imagination, through lizard resuscitation, abominations and Amphibians, encounters of the adolescent kind, the difference between sarcasm and irony, the Kama Sutra and the Bhagavad Gita, sea voyages and camel rides, a fight with the demon Catch, The Great Wall of China, shaving the yak in a Buddhist monastery (Go sit!), the Silk Road and Rumi the Untouchable near Calcutta. Biff would do anything to prevent his pal from suffering the treachery that Joshua's disciples knew would befall him at the hands of his own people, a hierarchy of powerful and influential religious leaders. What better person, then, than he to add another to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Mary the Magdalene? I agree with Christopher Moore when he notes in his... Read review

Moore On A Mission!
Review of Dude where's my country? - Michael Moore by  Tricia24

Advantages: Informative, funny & easy to read
Disadvantages: Very similiar to the content of "Fahrenheit 9/11"

...Michael Moore is a man on a mission. This mission is to remove George W. Bush as President of the United States. And already Moore has probably inflicted more damage on Bush’s campaign to be re-elected than John Kerry or any other Democrat. The mission continues with “Dude Where’s My Country?” “Dude Where’s My Country?” is the sequel to the best-selling “Stupid White Men” and along with the record breaking “Fahrenheit 9/11” is part of Michael Moore’s one-man campaign against George W. Bush. While “Stupid White Men” made Moore’s contempt of President Bush very apparent, the book covered a wide variety of themes such as racism in American society, how Mother Nature is killing off men and how the Democrats really aren’t very different from the Republicans. “Dude Where’s My Country?” is far more focused. In a similar vein... Read review

Even Moore Opinionated & Angry!
Review of Stupid White Men...And Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation! - Michael Moore by  Tricia24

Advantages: Should reach a large audience being about controversial issues but hilarious and easy to read
Disadvantages: Will the right people a) read it and b) listen and take action?

...Few who watched the 2003 Academy Awards – the one where most of the actresses wore black as a mark of respect because of the war – could have missed Michael Moore. Whilst on stage to collect his well-deserved Oscar for “Bowling for Columbine” Moore made his feelings about the war well and truly known! Yelling “Shame on you Mr Bush!” whilst the orchestra tried to drown him out (I realise the Oscars may not be the ideal forum for airing your political thoughts but so much for freedom of speech!) Moore gave the most entertaining performance of the whole evening. Michael Moore made his first movie, a documentary about General Motors called “Roger & Me”, in 1989 as a response to the world’s largest corporation “destroying” his hometown. Since then he has become something of a thorn in both multinational corporations and politicians sides... Read review
