I remember ... Read review

Advantages: entertaining, exciting, great storytelling, a nice message Disadvantages: A couple of bits I didn't like
...1963. ~~~ The Chronicles ~~~
There are seven books in the series. The first one Lewis wrote was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I saw a television program about his life that said he wrote this book in order to entertain children who'd been evacuated to live with him during the Second World War. The order they appear in most collections is not the order they were written in. The Magician's Nephew comes before the rest of the books in the series, ... ...stories in one book. The Chronicles of Narnia are available on Amazon in various editions. Some of the editions are illustrated. The original artist for the books is Pauline Baynes and the copy I have includes her drawings. They are simple, black and white drawings at the start of the chapters. I think the drawings are nice and they give a feeling for the world and the characters. Since the books are primarily aimed at children, I think it's good ...

Advantages: Some books are brilliant and as a collection it's wonderful Disadvantages: Not all of the books are brilliant
...rages as to whether the Chronicles of Narnia were written to be intentionally allegorical, and my stance on this matter is: I don't know. Some passages are so closely parallel to certain biblical events that it's hard to believe it could have been by chance, whereas after reading other sections I too to be symbolic I wondered if it was only in my head that the connection existed. Either way, the symbolism is definitely there, though to what extent ... ...Still, it adds an extra dimension to the stories and makes them far more than children's books. The symbolism definitely added to my enjoyment of reading the books (which I never had as a youngster). Lewis' writing is always readable, often witty, and sometimes exhilarating. (The latter characteristic is probably best exemplified in Voyage of the Dawn Treader.) It is a style that is accessible to children while having an extra layer of meaning to ...

The Chronicles Of Narnia. A gift off my sister, who claimed that Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without at least one book like this... so she got me seven. Well, thanks, Gem!
Yup, seven books make up the C'o'N. The Magician's Nephew, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, The Horse and his boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the 'Dawn Treader', The Silver Chair,
The final battle.
I read them at once, finding them valuable ... ...name them all, the characters, and so on. Now, they were written in the early fifties by a chap by the name of Clive Lewis. If you're wondering, his middle name was Staples. He was mates with Tolkien, the man who wrote The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, The Return of the King and The Hobbit. The two loved to diss and discuss each others' work.
Lewis taught at Merton college, Oxford. There's a small stone table in the garden at Merton, actually...(How ...

Advantages: An enchanting book that kids will love... Disadvantages: We all have to grow up :-(
...opinion is written under 'The Chronicles of Narnia', this review is only about one of the books. I have been trying to get 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' put up as a separate category for two weeks, but the Books section seems to have a problem with this at the moment. Sorry.)
(Anyway, on with the opinion...)
I don’t know why, but I’ve been feeling down this week. It might be because I have a birthday in a few days and I am ... ...the second book in the Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, but it is by far the best known. There are seven novels in the set and I read them all in childhood, but this was the only one I read more than once. I would definitely rate this one in my all-time top ten children’s books.
Overall, it’s a jolly good romp and a perfectly splendid book, old chap ;-)
(P.S. Am I the only person who *likes* my opinion title??) ...
