Advantages Stylish, comfortable and a dream to drive!
Disadvantages I cannot buy one in England
On a recent holiday in Florida the rental firm did not have any of the economy class cars availabel and so upgraded us to the Chrysler Sebring.
I had not even heard of this car until the rental chap drove it around to meet us. My first thought was 'Crikey that thing is huge!'. Being used to driving a small hatch in England I thought that the Sebring may be a little daunting to drive - I could not have been more wrong! So what is so good about the Sebring? Well let me start with the comfort aspect. Sitting in the car was like sitting in my living room. The car has big comfortable seats that make driving long distances a pleasure.
Everything in the cabin is within easy reach too. All of the dials and switches were easy to locate and use.The car drives like a dream, I had the 2.6 litre version and so it was very powerful. The automatic gear box made driving the car even easier. The power steering also meant that manoeuvring the car was easy too.
Gadgetry - this is an even better aspect of the Sebring. From the remote central locking to the air conditioning this car was every gadget loving persons dream. The remote for the central locking includes a button to open the boot (trunk) and works from quite a way off, meaning no fiddling around with keys when trying to store all of your luggage.
One of the best features about the car was that after you get in and drive away, once you get up to about 15mph the doors automatically lock. Ideal for nervous people in a new city where once upon a time car jacking was all the rage - Miami. The car had cruise control which was operated on a stalk on the steering wheel - again simple. The best (and most appreciated) item in the Sebring was the air con. It was 30 degrees celsius outdoors and we kept finding reasons to go for a drive just to use it - it was fantastic!
Seat adjustment, windows and door mirrors were all electric - great! It seemed fairly economical too - especially for a 2.6 ltr, after driving around 500 miles or so, I only needed to put in about 20 dollars worth of petrol - about the equivalent of 35 ukp at the time.
All of this in a car that has incredibly good looks - you can't go wrong with a Sebring. Probably equivalent to a BMW 5 series in the UK, this car was loaded with accessories but probably costs about half what BMW would.
