Advantages cheap, levels of choice, pay vet direct

Disadvantages most vets dont take them direct!

UPDATE 1st august 2006

This is not a recommendation review- This company is USELESS!
There prices are extremley low (£60 excess), but that is because their cover only treats up to a year for any one condition, if your pet became diabetic- after a year they would stop paying out- for example.
I was paying about £16 per month, no deposit, cover doesnt take affect for TEN days after taking it out- they never told me that btw.
And I couldnt find any vet that would take them, as a direct payment.

You have the option to pay monthly direct debit, or yearly.

I have now changed to M&S, it was actually cheaper by £2 per month, and has zero excess & pet is covered for long term conditions, and also no age restriction on pet.

Having had several quotes for my border collie pup, this was the best level of cover (I have the top level), with the best benefits for the best price. They claim to pay the vet's direct, and settle claims fast.

However, Goddard's & Companion Care don't take direct other than from PetPlan, as they get commission & as Petplan is so much more money for the same cover- I'd rather not be forced into going with them.

I Called up Churchill's, and asked them which vet's in my area take their insurance.

I spoke with the claims department, the customer service department, and the vet finder line- none of them can actually give even a name of any vet- in the country that take their insurance direct!

I assume some must do, but Churchill's haven't botherd to get a list, or keep a record.

Very unhelpful.

I have found one, whom is not biased with any insurance- they will take a post dated cheque- once churchill's pay them- they will give the cheque back.

Fair enough.

I wouldn't recommend them, as to be honest- if they can't even honor a call back, or answer a simple question like this- this early in my policy, then I don't have much confidence in their ability.

UPDATE:

I have been asked in the comments how much this is???! For my pup its £16 pm for their top cover, but it obviously goes on breed, size and age, whether they are chipped, snipped+ different prices for cats of course, so I can't give you a def price- but I can give you their phone number for a quote! ;-)

Levels of cover- well, I just went to their site & without doing a full quote again- it doesn't say what they call them eg silver, gold, platinum, so I can't seem to find that out- even after doing a search. All I know is I got the top level!

I don't like the fact that the pet isn't covered after 12 months- for a condition they have been treated for, nor the age limit- which I think is 9.

I am going to change to a different insurer because of that & their lack of help & customer service.

I would have thought Churchill would be good, however I have looked into M&S myself and they do seem really good, one on my shortlist for now anyway until I get time to look at others.
