Advantages: An Instantly Recognisable Great Flavour Disadvantages: Not everyone likes pickled foods.
Branston Pickle....... crunchy, tangy, British to the core and can bring to life the blandest of foods and/or enhance some already good flavours. I have mine in cheese sandwiches, ham sandwiches, with cold turkey or chicken. You can buy the equivalent in other brands and it’s usually cheaper and called "Sweet Pickle". With the credit crunch that might be tempting but not for me because this is one product where the known brand is far superior in ... ...another company in 1922. Branston is a place in Burton-Upon-Trent (Better known for brewing than pickling) which is in the North Midlands of England. In 2004 the price of Branston Pickle temporarily shot up because a fire completely destroyed a major pickling plant in Suffolk! The pickle is made from a wide variety of very small diced vegetables combined with salt, sugar, vinegar, dates, onion powder, spices and one or two chemicals thrown in. So ...
Advantages: A good standby for sandwiches Disadvantages: None
I first started to use Heinz sandwich spread about 30 years ago when I was a student. I bought it when I was on a backpacking holiday in Cornwall. When I taste it nowadays it brings back the wonderful memories of my walk round the Cornish coastal paths.
I would make up the sandwiches in the early morning and then put a yoghurt in the lunch box, walk for 4-5 hours and then sit in some spectaular location in Cornwall and devour the sandwiches. They ... ...I have been using Heinz Sandwich Spread ever since! The spread is basically tiny chopped vegetables - ie gherkin, red pepper, cabbage and onions in a salady type cream sauce...it is quite tangy and has a very distinctive taste. I particularly like to combine it with either cheese or tuna on a sandwich....it makes the cheese and tuna go that bit further and adds a diferent taste. It is quite crunchy too..
It can be obtained from most supermarkets ...
Advantages: A small amount goes a long way Disadvantages: Not hot enough
I have this stuff in my fridge all the time, it's a nice alternative to ketchup. I particulary like the jalapeno one (which isn't as hot as i'd like but that's probably so that it appeals to a mass market). It lasts well, i'm not sure what the sell by date is but as of yet i've never used it and thought it had gone 'off'. I suspect there is a lot of sugar in these relishes though (you can really taste it, you are probably better advised to make your ... ...but as that's the case with most condiments i can deal with it. The upside- down feature is brilliant, i only ever buy bottles like this now as it saves all the 'smacking the end of the bottle' effort of the olden days. It tastes like squished up tomatoes with some sugar and a slight kick. Pretty much how you'd expect a relish to taste. ...

Review of Branston relish
Advantages: Taste, ease of use Disadvantages: No mango bits
My wife needed mango chutney for a recipe last week, and asked me to get some. In our local Tesco's, of the three brands available, this turned out to be the cheapest on the shelf. Per 100g, I think it worked out a bit more expensive than the others, and it's the 375g squeezy bottle I picked up, as opposed to the more familiar format of a jar - this wasn't available.
To start with, the squeezy bottle makes it easier to apply, especially if you're ... ...squeezing onto salads or sandwiches, as per the recommendation on the bottle.
Mango chutney is used by many to add a bit of sweetness to an Indian meal without it detracting from the taste and effect the meal itself has. I have always had (wherever possible) a generous portion of it as an extra taste, and I found the Sharwood's version to be lovely. There are a couple of drawbacks, but one thing you do get is high quality mango chutney, with 41% ...
...wonder what? Could it be BRANSTON PICKLE SMOOTH BY ANY CHANCE??? Yes, it could well be! And that is the sweet, totally off - topic story behind this review. And I guarantee that this review will be totally free of herbal teas, Julian Graves fruit mixes and cricket bats, at least from now on, so rest assured. Now I first came across Branston at a pub in Castle Coombe, whilst having a ploughmans lunch, and included was Branston Pickle, and I tried ... ...On it it has a Branston logo and also the slogan 'Squeezy - Ideal for sandwiches'. Wow. No that is one catchy slogan and a half.
So we ( or rather I) flip open the cap that can, incidentally, be twisted, and what wonderous aroma awaits me? Without using the words 'Pickle' and 'Branston', I could say that it is a vinegary acidic smell, not dissimilar to that of HP sauce. But also a much sweeter fragrance than that of HP...but not a nasty, sugary ...
