For the purposes of this review I needed the services of a man…
Right then, now that I have your attention I will carry on with my review of a new range of hair-care products for men, with my (mostly) willing hubby acting the part of my lovely assistant.
The product range is called CIRC and has been designed for men who are worried about thinning hair. Gentlemen, it is a sad fact of life that as the years pass and the waistline thickens, so the hair thins. This is called androgenic alopecia, or male pattern baldness, and is very common. (Except, apparently, in eunuchs…but you might prefer to hear more about this new product…?…I thought so.)
It is the male hormone testosterone that is responsible for hair loss in men after puberty. Most men are affected to some extent, although there may also be genetic factors at work too. Did your Dad begin to lose his hair early or did he still have a headful well into his middle years? Also, male pattern baldness is more common in European men. Some unfortunate souls begin to lose their hair while still in their twenties.
As your hair begins to thin, you will notice a receding hairline, thinning at the temples and on the crown, as a result of the hair follicles beginning to shrink. There is no cure, alas. Medications which claim to prevent hair loss or even to promote regrowth have very limited success. So it really is a case of making the best of what you’ve got left.
The CIRC range of hair care products contains polymer supplements, similar to those found in other hair care products (although the supplements in CIRC are under patent.) The range comprises CIRC shampoo which claims to add thickness and control, CIRC spray-on fullness conditioner, to help retain fullness, scalp moisturiser to reduce dryness, CIRC hair fullness booster, to lift hair at the roots and promote fullness, CIRC styling and cooling gel, for use on damp or dry hair, CIRC hair refresher wash, to remove the residue of other products which can weigh the hair down, and CIRC hair strengthener which helps reduce breakage.
I asked my hubby to test the shampoo and spray-on conditioner. The shampoo is rich, thick and creamy and you use it just like ordinary shampoo. Lather up, rinse, and repeat if necessary. First time round we left out the conditioner, but his hair felt very soft and manageable, and there did seem to be added volume. Next time we used the spray-on conditioner and his hair was very bouncy and soft, and after combing, felt and looked thicker. Incidentally, the products have a pleasant, refreshing smell.
We would have tried the scalp moisturiser too, however, it is not recommended for dandruff control so we gave it a miss. But my hubby was impressed with the products we tried and has confirmed that he will use them both again, and would like to give the hair strengthener a try too.
It is recommended that, for best results, you use the products in conjunction with one another. Also, we do not know whether the thickening effect would be lost if you were to discontinue use of the products for a time. Nonetheless, this range does seem to live up to its claims and is worth trying.
Is the CIRC range expensive?
Well, as we ladies know only too well, vanity doesn’t come cheap. The products in the CIRC range are in the medium price range. The shampoo comes in two sizes, 200ml and 300ml priced £3.95 and £5.90,the 200ml hair refresher wash is £3.95,the 125ml spray-on conditioner is £3.95,the 125ml fullness booster is £5.90,and the 125ml hair strengthener is £5.90,all available at Superdrug, which is the only place I have seen the CIRC range at present.
Oh, and Ladies...sometimes we can suffer from hair thinning (especially after menopause) and yes, we can use CIRC too (after all, we pinch his razor, so why not?)

Hi, Suzan,Thanks for the excellant op.I was wondering what are the ingrediants as most of the products for male pattern baldness can effect male fertility(Rare but proven fact as they act on harmones),though it is hardly likely that a shampoo would have such an effect but i would suggest to read the information leaflet with it, as i am not sure about this particular product.Anyway Good op.Cheers.

Good op, I got a sample of this shampoo sent to me in the post for carrying out a shopping consumer questionaire (well my wife did it for me!). I'm saving the shampoo for one of my friends as he is more folically challenged than me (and no I'm not a enuch!)
