The first in the 12 book series (also available in 4 trilogy books) it follows the story of a boy called Darren Shan and the outcome of a visit to a mysterious freak show called The Cirque Du Freak where he and his friend are awed by a weird looking man called Mr Crepsley (who turns out to be a vampire) and his pet spider, a huge Tarantula which he seems to be able to control. The series is aimed at children aged up to about 14 and the first three books are in preouction to become a feature film (rights bought by Universal Studios). This first book ends and delves straight into the second book so it is advised to buy at least the first three together to avoid disappointment! Read It!
