Manufacturer's product description
Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access points provide industry-leading RF capabilities with the widest breadth of deployment options for maximum wireless LAN performance, security, reliability, and ease of use. This makes the Cisco wireless LAN solution ideally suited for any enterprise environment. Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access points handle real-time 802.11 radio functions within a Cisco wireless LAN, including radio transmit and receive, client probe requests, and air monitoring. These devices act as the eyes and ears of the wireless network, feeding valuable information to Cisco wireless LAN controllers and Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) Software for real-time decisions. In addition, Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access points handle time-sensitive functions, such as Layer 2 encryption, that enable Cisco wireless LANs to securely support voice, video, and data applications. Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access points combine simultaneous data forwarding and air monitoring functions eliminating the need for additional dedicated monitoring nodes and thereby reducing the cost of operating wireless networks. This simplifies network design and deployment and maximizes RF security by extending real-time monitoring to every corner of a wireless infrastructure. This product is a AP1020 Cisco 1000 Series lightweight access point with one 802.11a and one 802.11b/g radio, four high-gain internal antennas, and no external antenna adapters.

There are definitely cheaper alternatives around however air on the side of caution, as these generally have inferior quality aerials and tend to be much less reliable. With Linksys you are buying into years and years of networking experience as they are the “home user brand” of networking giant Cisco systems....

Advantages: Fast, Secure and Efficient Internet Connection Disadvantages: High level of Technical Expertise needed to setup more advanced features
...The Cisco 800 Series Routers provide a solution for high speed, secure and above all reliable Internet connection. The 857 model is specifically designed for connecting small office / home office (Soho) networks to the Internet via ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) or "Broadband" technologies. For those of you who know little of Broadband (ADSL), it is a new technology that allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines at higher download rates.
Typically home users connect to the Internet via a Modem, often supplied by there internet service provider. However, this solution of internet connectivity is far from ideal in a mission critical environment. If you don't know what a router is, it is unlikely you need one. However, if you wish to connect to the internet in a fast and secure manner a router is the only...

Advantages: Very Easy to setup, v.good range, good looking piece of equipment Disadvantages: Can't forward many ports
...As Linksys is owned by Cisco when you purchase this router you know you're purchasing something which will last and will be reliable. The wireless part of this router is amazing, the signal is excellent and I haven't had a problem since I purchased this item. The router part protects my home network from intrusion and allows me to setup a secure VPN so I can access my network elsewhere. You can open ports to allow applications to access any PCs on your network. You can also restrict internet access per PC with timed intervals allowing you to keep an eye on the kids usage. Overall this router is an amazing bit of kit that has every option available and takes minutes to setup....
