Cisco in general teaches you how to connect two or more personal computers to each other and enable them to communicate, which can be used to share a internet connection, share printers, to send files, or even have a massive game, against all your mates! which is also known as a LAN party!
Types of networks There are many types of networks, but the main two are LANS (local area network) and WANS (wide area network), and they are exactly what the names tell you. LANS, are local area networks, which are used in one organisation, for example a secondary school, like the one i went to! WANS, are wide area networks, which are the same as LANS just on a larger scale, between to buildings, or oganisations. The best example of a WAN, is the internet, as its currently the biggest WAN! In the Cisco course, you will learn all about networks, how to create your own using expert equipment, like routers, switch's and hubs.
About me I went to a 6th form where i studied this course! some parts of it are very boring, and alot of information is needed to be taken in! but overall it is worth it for computer lovers!
i have completed all CCNA's now! and currently looking for a job in this field!
Advantages of this course This course will learn you new skills, like binary, and hexidecimal. It will get you a job in the computer industy, and the qualification is noticed world wide, so you can work any were around the world!!!! The learning material, is all online, which includes activities, and electrical labs, which can be done online! But not only that, all the tests are done online, so no having to worry about pens running out of ink! The questions on the test are all multi-choice,
Disadvantages of this course It does take along time to complete the course, but it does depend on how fast you learn. The course can also get boring at times as alot of information needs to be taken in. Cisco, must be done through a college, or school as the course isnt directly offered to the public.
Requirements you must have acess to a computer, with internet access (doesnt matter how slow, or fast it is, aslong as you have one, you will be fine), this is just so you can read the teaching material, and do the tests.
Overall This is a great course, and i would recommend it to anyone which can get access to a college which does the course. As it will give you some great rewards back, like a well paid job! and a boost in the I.T industry! I find the course very rewarding, as i can make basic networks now, and can use my knowledge to create LAN partys in my free time!
Out of 10, i would give this course, 9.6!! because normally, when doing tests, you have to go into a big hall, and sit there for hours being bored stiff!!! but with cisco, its all online, and they can give you your result straight away in percentage form and once your finished, all you have to do is click submit then turn off the computer and leave! Even though, the course does get boring at times, and can be very off putting, as most people at my 6th form fount out half way through the course, i find it a a great move in my life, and i will continue in that direction, into the computer world!
Advantages: A networking qualification available at the end Disadvantages: extra workload

I have just finished semester 1 and I have foud that I have learned a lot. the first semester has a lot of general information, but also features a lot about planing a network, taking into consideration wiring closets, types of wires etc. As well as the theory there is an extensive ...
