Thinking about obtaining a Citi Cardcredit card at all? After reading this you may not want to. I have been with them since About August 2003, payments were made on time every time. In August 2004 my wages were messed up by my employers payroll company, this meant that instead of living on £1000 a month I was living on £700 a month for 3 months in a row.
All my bills to my knowledge were by direct debit so I didn’t really need to worry. I contacted Citi Card, on the 22nd December as I had noticed that my payment had not been made and that a late payment fee was on my account.
I spoke to an Advisor, Bhavnit Gokani in the payment processing department on the 22nd December. He took my debit card details for the sum of, £171 of which they received authorisation for.
Today I called Citi Card and spoke to Reena ext 1819, I made yet another card payment of , £200 of which they also again received authorisation for. I requested a directdebit be setup, of which a mandate is due to be sent to me.
That’s the back ground of it, today I came to make a card purchase for £20, I was advised that my credit card had been declined, I couldn’t understand this so I contacted Citi Card and spoke to Andrew Dodd ( Manager in customer service) , he advised that a block had been placed on my card due to the payments been missed. I asked why when I called up on the above occasions did the advisors not inform me of this, or why no letter was received advising me of this. He responded,
“ Im sorry that they have over looked this, I would be willing to put this in writing as you requested. I do have the power to lift the bar, however before we do, we need to see regular payments been received.”
I asked Andrew, if I made a payment of £200 extra on top of what I had already made, leaving a balance of around £40 left on the account. Taking into consideration that this is the first time this has ever happened with my account and that it would be run by direct debit from now on. Andrew Refused this and advised that they would review the account in several months to see how it was running. He advised that me paying the balance would not unsuspended my account, even though £571 would have been paid within 7 days in total.
So the way they want to do it is, make as much interest out of you. They prefer that you don’t pay them the outstanding balance right away much like Capital One.
Until this point, I was not aware that the payments were not been taken by direct debit due to no statements been received, I’m a person that unless I have something in front of me I don’t tend to remember a lot of it due to me working in a collections department leading a very stressful 9 hour day.
