...experience so far. I joined Citibank back in January 2007 after falling out with Halifax Bank of Scotland. I wanted a bank that allowed me access to my money when I wanted it, had decent online banking facilities, and had 24hr telephone banking. I looked around the market and started researching many accounts in the end I decided on Citibank.

...to be adequately serviced using Citibank for my current account and Egg for savings. It is no coincidence that these two were amongst the pioneers of internet banking. Citibank are part of the huge American based CitiGroup Corporation. When they first started to market banking services to the UK, they were seen as something of a premium banking service. Accordingly, you had to earn a minimum of £30,000 a year to become a customer. Their current ...

A horror story of errors

Advantages: International felxibility for your funds between uk and usa possible
Disadvantages: Extremely poor customer service

I opened up a citibank account because I shall be requiring the flexibility to tranfer funds easily between the UK and the US. I now have the following accounts with citibank: Flexisaver Current Account US Dollar Saving account US Dollar currnet account However, I experienced problems from day one of applying. Firstly I was informed that I could go to a Branch and open an account there. Although strictly true, the telephone operative who provided ...

Nowhere in the terms and conditions document for the account was this stated and I wasn't given this information by the personal banker who called me to inform me the account was open. So now having lost a significant amount of money on interest whilst my funds were in transit, I proceed to activate my account. Your initial funding of the account, in order to ...

...that's not a problem with Citibank in the UK, or indeed anywhere in the world. Citibank uses the VISA cash network which is every cash machine in the UK. Every cash machine in the UK - for no fee. If you don't mind not using a branch network (although you can pay in at Lloyds TSB Branches) and are comfortable with telephone and internet banking, it's the ideal account. I have had mine for over 2 years and never had a problem. Transferring money ...

It's convenient for me and they have been able to do pretty much all I have asked from them, including paying in a cheque made out in US dollars and opening a US dollar checking account over the phone. Well recommended. ...

...OF CITIBANK I opened a Citibank account 3 years ago, because I needed an international bank. I was attracted to Citibank by the range of currencies it offered, and the ability to transfer funds to other Citibank accounts abroad. I initially used the Interciti service. This allows transfers to be made to other European branches of Citibank free of charge, and funds being received the same day. However, I have recently discovered how easy it is to ...

Problems with citibank

Advantages: Real time balances
Disadvantages: Appaling customer services, paying in arrangements

...strongly recommend against opening a citibank account, and if you have one, then my recommendation would be to close it. Recently a cheque for £5,000 went missing after it was payed in at a Lloyds branch (this is how you pay money into citibank accounts). I called citibank, but they were uninterested and advised that all they could suggest was that I chased Lloyds. Not them then? No sir. They also offered to send me a new telephone pin number since ...
...send it. Instead they cancelled my e-pin, thereby shutting off my web access, and effectively my whole bank account. I e mailed them (I had to as they wouldn't speak to me on the phone as i had no telephone pin!). Once I tried, no reply. Again I tried, no reply. Six days had gone by. Bills needed paying. I called again. I told them that I had chased Lloyds and located the whereabouts of my cheque for them. I told them I couldn't access my bank account ...

Great online banking

Advantages: ease of use, ease of access, instant transactions
Disadvantages: entry criteria are a bit steep

I have been really impressed with Citibank's online service since I opened a current account a few months ago. I have used a number of other banks' online service (NatWest, Cahoot, Egg) and find Citibank the easiest to use by far Its advantages are (a) ease of use (b) ease of access (some of the others go WAAAAAAAAAY over the top in terms of security, I think!) (c) ability to easily transfer money between Citibank accounts (instantaneously) (d) ability to open accounts in other currencies immediately, and (e) I have ALWAYS been able to log on to my account (this is definitely NOT true of the others, especially Egg!!!) Its disadvantages are the entry criteria - in theory, you actually have to either have your salary paid into your account monthly, or deposit some ridiculous sum (£75,000 or something!). As such, I'd recommend ...

free flights

Advantages: Interest, overdraft, freefne customer services
Disadvantages: takes time to answer

Open a citibank bank account and you can get a FREE flight or Eurostar ticket to Paris or Brussels. The only CATCH is that you must either leave £2,000 in the account for 32 months OR have your salary transferred. Other advantages include: a reasonable (2.5%) rate of interest on your savings. Not the best, but not the worst either- and very good considering that you have use of cashcards and cheques for free. An interest FREE overdraft of £500. You get monthly statements. There is a FREE FONE number to call for customer services. But this can sometimes be ENGAGED for a while. ...

. Throughout this commotion, they have never apologised and treated as though students were not their priority customers. TRANSFERRING OF BANKS As i am in my second year now, i have been checking out interest rates of banks and becoming wiser. I realised that a citibank account offers a higher interest rate and decided to apply for one online. After i did, citibank informed me that i had to send photocopies of my passport to them, with the 'certified true copy' stamped on them. I went down to hsbc and asked a lady for help on this matter. She remarked with a 'so u transferring funds to citibank ya?' After which, she went into a room for what seemed like ages. She then told me that hsbc does not provide such a service anymore!!! what rubbish! A global bank unable to stamp some forms?? i approached natwest that day even though i did not ...
