I opend an account with Citibank about five years ago and since then I havent even thought about moving the account elsewhere. I previously had current account with Natwest and then Barclays and I had to close both the accounts within few months.
I went to the Citibank branch in Oxford street with all my details (passport, salary bills and so on ) and my account was opened straight away and made use of the free foreign currency service just prior to a trip to Italy. I have recommended Citibank to couple of my friends and they managed to open the account easily via postal application.
The telephone banking is pretty straight forward and havent experienced any problems so far. Unlike some other banks, it is a free phone number and you can check the account balance, make bill payments and list of recent transactions without speaking to someone at the customer service. I dont use the telephone banking much nowadays as I prefer the internet banking.
The internet banking is free and very reliable and again you can do almost all the transactions this way.Also you can download the statement to Microsoft Money or Quicken for further use.
One of the additional service offered by citibank is something known as "personal reserve" . If you are eligible you are offered a personal reserve of about few thousand pounds and you can transfer the money to the current account at times of need and then pay back when you can afford. The interest is charged daily and also they take out a minimum amount everymonth to pay towards the personal reserve.I found this useful when I need extra cash just for a few weeks or months but the interest rates are a bit steep at about 14% (sorry I dont remember the exact figure)
The bank also provides an interest free overdraft of £500 which again is very helpful and unlike someother banks there is no charge for this service. As others have mentioned one can use the visa delta to draw cash from any cash till in UK and overseas for no additional charge.
I dont have citibank visa credit card as I have enough credit cards already!
Also if you have a cheque which needs to be sent to the bank , you have to send it with a pay in slip in an envelope (prepaid)and it usually reaches your account within two working days.The bank also pays good interest as well.
The only downside is that it doesnt have any branches in UK apart from two in London but I havent experienced any problems as a result.
I dont work for citibank and am just a very satisfied cutomer.
I changed to Citibank about a year and a half ago having got fed up with the charges being levied by my prior bank.
* The internet service is excellent.
* You get free telephone banking (with a freefone number).
* You can use nearly every cash machine available (including abroad) free of charge. I have yet to find a cash machine that I have not been able to use.
* You get a free £400 overdraft.
* You get a free US dollar saving account, should ...

But Citibank in India made my life very easy. I do not have to go to the bank unless really required in cases like to apply for a new debit card since you have lost one.
Even the opening of an account is so simple and secure because, one of my friend at work wanted to open an account with citibank and requested our HR to contact them on this regard. Surprisingly, an executive from citibank came to our office with all the forms ... ...just get an account. But citibank is awesome in its service.
==Credit Cards==
And also the credit cards citibank offers has great value for your money. You have cash back offers, few have discounts on purchase after certain amount.
==Redeem Awards==
For people like me who depend mostly on online banking, they even have something called reward points. If our points exceed certain limit, we can redeem them by selecting the prize we want. And I ...

Advantages: Well known global bank, Good products. Disadvantages: Lousy call return rate.
Citibank are the only bank I know of to offer an interest and fee free £500 overdraft in the UK. Other products are as good, travel fx, Libor mortgages, etc
It has the added advantage of being truely worldwide eg phone banking from the many countries they serve is free and in your home language.
There used to be a low income criteria (£20k = UK national average wage)for becoming a member but it was removed, I don't think I came back through the ... ...overdraft.
I would recomend Citibank to those are regular finance board visitors eg. fool.co.uk or citiwire.co.uk and probably have their own relatively active broking account (ie. 2-3 transactions per year). If you need too much hand holding and don't take advantage of the Net banking then this may not be for you. In my experience if your average transaction item (mean not mode) is greater than the £100 no-bounce-zone you get from other banks then ...

Advantages: Polite staff, clear statements, easy to contact via phone Disadvantages: poor customer service, staff often seem out of their depth
...has been relatively smooth, but Citibank has proved much more frustrating to deal with. Although Citibank's strengths apparently lie in telephone and internet banking, they also have a small number of branches in London. I have visited the branches in Hanover Square and St Paul's a number of times and the staff have all been very polite and try to help but often seem out of their depth in dealing with both myself and other customers and have to find ... ...not true. Written correspondence with Citibank tends to produce confusing letters in reply coupled with small irritations. For example, they addressed a letter to my wife because her name was below mine on a Council Tax Bill I provided as proof of residence, and they asked me to complete a form that they failed to enclose with the letter. I'm sure that one day we will get everything sorted out and I will learn to love Citibank, but until then only ...

Advantages: Can help to repair bad or poor credit History Disadvantages: can incur high fees if you fail to send payment on time
we applied. Gutted! I couldn't understand it, we'd been straight with our money for a few years and had not used any credit at all.
One night, soon after that, we saw an advertisement on TV for credit cards and repairing credit rating and thats when we realised that by not purchasing anything on credit, we were not building our credit rating up again.
We wanted to find out more about the finance companies who were prepared to give credit to help us repair our credit rating and so searched for information on the internet. Thats how we discovered the Associates - now know as Citibank.
We decided to apply for one on-line (that way, when they refused us we wouldn't have to walk away red-faced!!)
We were directed to the site after typing in a search for repairing credit in the search engine -google. The site was informative ...

Advantages: Overall Good Service Disadvantages: No On-Line Service
I've been a Citibank customer since the start on them entering the UK credit card business, I started with Associates Classic Card and it has been moved to the Citibank branding www.citicards.co.uk
Like many Citibank customers I started with a high apr (32.9%) at present there website www.citicards.co.uk offer 6 months interest free for transfers and a low apr off 13.9% but been warned read your documents to check your apr if you sign up. Although I had a high apr I needed a credit card and used it, I never missed a payment and have found that if you phone and complain about the high apr then they will be more than happy to reduce your apr (I am now on the low 13.9%), if you phone every 6 months you find that they update there systems and make you offers, but YOU have to ask Citicard, they won't offer.
Talking off there customer ...
