People have said it shouldn't be reved high..Not true. People have said it's not safe enough..Not true. Some have called it too slow..(Maybe true at times). Some have said that it has narrow tyres..Not true.
Well, a lot of miles behind the steering wheel of a 2CV have taught me a few things:
It's a great car, rust prone, but great. But it has it's flaws and not all mechanics understands the way it's designed, oh it's logical enough but the mechanics tries to make it difficult. So a typical do it yourself car. Buy one, join the 2CV-l group at yahoo and buy a Haynes workshop manual, also a good idea would be to join a 2CV or Citroen owners club..
Okay back to the car, so is it dangerous? Compared to a Toyota 626 Mondeo, then it's not as safe..But compared to a lot of other classics of it's era, then it's relatively safe (except for side impacts..bad bad bad). It handles well, predictable, not sporty handling but predictable. Excellent brakes when set up right. Excellent engine that loves revs, anybody saying the opposite outta be hospitalized on grounds of insanity..Read another review here, do the relevant research and have a good long laugh..I really thought that review was a joke.. Narrow tyres? maybe if you compare directly to a VW Golf..But taking into consideration that the Golf has 3 times the power and twice the weight..Then the 2CV comes out with wider tyres than the Golf..
Slow? Well a top speed of 115 to 120km/h might seem a bit slow on the highways/motorways and the acceleration is a bit low compared to newer cars..Stay in the inner lane, take your time..
Look for chassis rust, engines are available as recond units or used ones for cheap, tyres can be a pain to get, either they're expensive or you'll have to wait a lifetime..
Buy a 2CV and join the fun.

Hi, Welcome to Ciao - a good first review. Never owned a 2CV but my Dad had one and loved it, a great car and very friendly owners club. His had a sticker on the boot ''2CV - not just a car, a way of life!'. How true! People used to laugh at the gearstick but look how many modern cars also have it coming out of the dashboard. Cheers, Tony
