The Citroen Saxo 1.0 is the car currently sitting on my driveway and is my first ever car. I have been driving for just over a year now and I have no burning desire to upgrade yet. Why? Because the Saxo is incredibly efficient in many ways and is perfect for someone watching their bank balance in these tough economic times. First of all, my car is unmodified and will stay that way whilst I am the owner. This brings me on to the issue of reputation. Many cars of this model are hammered around with bits of plastic stuck on them and can be seen as an undesirable car. Don't let this put you off. If you look after it, it is a great little runner. I have never had any problems with my car. I get the Saxo serviced at my local garage which is down a tiny street where parking is an issue. Not for me though. The Saxo is a small car and can fit into tighter spaces. It does not have power steering which is not a problem as you get a feel for the car, it handles very well and is responsive. As a young driver I have been pleased with the fuel efficiency of this car. It costs me approx. £35 to fill the tank with unleaded petrol (depending on fuel prices obviously) and this goes a long way. My partner lives 60 miles away and I can pick him up and take him home, I can go to work every day and home for a week, I can drive to the supermarket and to my friends houses and I can take us on a trip at weekend. All of this before filling my car back up with petrol. The Saxo is in the lowest tax band and the insurance is very reasonable. It doesn't take me long to clean the car both inside and out as it is small, and the seat covers I recently bought with the tagline 'universal fit' do fit this car, whereas those with bigger cars have had problems. This car is not particularly pretty to look at but its functionality outweighs this aspect and those looking for design and appearance would perhaps prefer to look elsewhere. This model does not have central locking or electric windows. Primarily when I first got the car I was unhappy about this, now it does not bother me and I am used to it. For the cost to buy and run the car, the issue of central locking is not significant. This is a very reliable car and has had less problems than many more expensive newer cars that my friends own. This is as much to do with looking after it well as the car being quite simply, a good car.
Personally I sometimes have had a sore back after driving long distances. Whether this is the car or my back is unresolved, but the seats are not particularly comfortable. This car is designed for running around and completing a daily routine, not for driving very long distances. I have read a review stating that this model cannot go over 50mph, which is not true at all. This model can go to 110mph although I have only ever taken it to 90mph. At a steady motorway speed of 70mph you will have no problems. This model came with a tape-player which I replaced with a CD player. There is an airbag on the driver side and a deep glovebox. I can fit more than 8 shopping bags in the boot, or a large suitcase. If you wanted to fit lots of luggage in the car, removing the parcel shelf or dropping the back seat down is an option. Fuel emissions are nothing to worry about when it comes to MOT with a Saxo as I have found out, and being quite small, I find this car a perfect fit. The pedals are small and the seat can be brought right forward towards the steering wheel. This car can be difficult to drive if you are a large man due to fitting feet on the pedals and having enough leg room underneath the steering wheel. I would recommend this car to anyone, particularly those looking for a first car or those who want a cheap and cheerful routine car that is easy to maintain.
Advantages: Great First Car, Cheap Insurance, Pretty Reliable, Cheap late plates. Disadvantages: A 5 year slump, high end acceleration
The entry level Saxo from Citroen is a brilliant car for a first time buyer.
With a top speed topping just over 108mph, and inner city fuel consumption at about 45mpg+, and on the lowest tax bracket, the Saxo 1.0 is perfect for a first time / young driver. The handling is very responsive, and for a car with no poer steering, it is very light.
The cabin is very spacious for such a small "super mini", but with a not so spacious, yet still confortable ... ...but don't expect to be going very fast with a full load. Get a rolling start on lights, so you aren't holding up that cyclist behind you.
The bite on the clutch is very nicely set, and is pretty nippy between 0-50, however, top end acceleration 50-70 is pretty labouring.
The footwell is pretty spacious on the drivers side, but with a very high left foot rest, makes keeping your foot above the clutch a much better idea.
The boot space is nothing ...

Advantages: Cheap to run, no problems with them. Disadvantages: not much space in the back.
The Citroen saxo 1.0i is a great little car for a young person who has just pass their test, i have always loved this car when they first come out in 1996. The little 1.0i engine is a small engine but is still a nippy car around town.
It is good for petrol it don't drink that much but the style of the standed one looks abit boring.
The boot is big enough to get a good lot of shopping in there or your speakers if you like them in there. The saxo ... ...^ sunroof
^ front spot lights
^ allow wheels
^ cd player just a tape/cassette player
^ body kits stuff like that
but that don't matter because its still a good little car and cheap and Reliable.
they hold their price well, but if you want something better like faster and better looking then go for the VTR OR VTS. ...

Advantages: Nippy around town, fuel economy, decent starter car Disadvantages: Lacks above 50mph,
I have had my saxo spree 4, 1.0L for about 8 months now and it is a good little runner, it is nippy around town and handles well, even if the steering can be a little heavy round corners sometimes. The petrol consumption is ok, it does about 48 miles to the gallon for me, but im not always light on the accelerator, so this is fairly good.
The car is quick from 0-50 (well quick for a 1.0) but above this it takes its time...0-50 takes about ten seconds ... ...in mine, because of the change to third gear...also if you want to get above 70 at all...dont put a body kit on it and do out all the sound system as i have done because this added loads of weight to the car, which is probably why mine take 15.64 seconds to get to 60. The most i have got out of my car is 85mph and this was pushing it, could probably get it to 90mph if you gave me an extra 10 minutes...but you never really need to go this fast unless ...

Advantages: superb fuel economic, value of money, low maintainance cost, sporty Disadvantages: slightly poor handling, less room space for passenger
I just bought a Citroen Saxo 1.1SX (1996, P reg), 2 weeks ago. The most satisfied of this car is the fuel consumptions level, no matter you are in city or non-city driving, it still the leading compared with rivals like Renautl Clio 1.2, Vauxhall Corsa 1.2, and Fiat punto 1.2, Ford Fiesta 1.3, etc. I managed to get a ride about 120 miles just for 10 pounds petrol price ( It was 95.9 per liter at that time). For the comfortable, it slightly poor due ... ...this much of features but citroen saxo really do. You can get all of this with your budget car.
In addiction, it is very easy to maintain and parts is easy available in the market.
physically of this car, it looks sporty and more "youngster feeling" instead of a family car riding. it has a sleek design throughout and confidence with its reliability.
overall of it, i would highly recommend for those who are looking for a superb economical and practical ...

Advantages: Cheap to run, reliable, ideal first car Disadvantages: Low power, no passenger airbag, no power steering
A decent runner. Iv'e had the car for 3 years now and I generally very pleased with it. It has basic safety equipment but still better than some older cars - 5 seatbelts and a driver airbag. I think it could also benefit from having a passenger airbag, as could all cars. As for comfort, it's not bad at all. Soft seats in both the front and the back. They're not too hard where it makes your backside numb after a long drive. It's always comfortable. ... ...but still not bad. Mine also has a yellow gear knob and door locks as well as different colour seatbelts! Which is quite cool, and I think a standard.
There are a couple of things I would change about the car. The main thing being the steering. Due to it being 1.0 ltr and under (mine is 954 cc!!!) it doesn't have power steering - I was told that only the 1.4 ltr and above have this I do believe. The steering can be VERY heavy at times, especially ...

The Citroensaxo Vtr a great car, With the features of - Power Assited Steering, electric windows, electric mirrors, sports seats, and a rev counter. The CitroenSaxo Vtr has a standard engine of a 1.6 8 vavles, only 8valves less than the CitroenSaxo Vts, But can be easily tuned to be as fast even faster than the vts, The vtr is also six insurance groups lower than the CitroenSaxo vts. The CitroenSaxo Vtr has the extended arches as well as the CitroenSaxo vts and west coast, unlike the 1.0i, and 1.1's. You can buy the saxo in many colours, But i prefer either the metallic blue, or the metallic black both very good clours to suit the vtr. ...
Advantages: A Nippy Litle Runner, Very Customisable for the enthusiast. Disadvantages: Hmm ... I've had lots of cosmetic problems !
My Citroen Experience began 2 years ago with my first car being the 1.0i Saxo East Coast. This was purchased for me by my parents for my 21st Birthday. An excellent little runner it wasn?t to last... Unfortunately I was involved in an accident and it was written off! From this though came my first Saxo VTS. Purchased for £5000 it was 3 years old with reasonable mileage, ran well to begin with and responded when needed. However when things started to go wrong with it things got bad! Resorting to my local dealership every time I had a whole host of problems, from ABS Sensors failing to it staling at traffic lights due to an ECU problem. So I traded it in 6 months ago for a 2003 Model Saxo VTS. Now things were brilliant at first. Having obtained a rare 130BHP version I thought I was onto a winner.. But From early problems Inc free insurance ...
