Do You want a Cheap First Car? I've Got One!!!

Advantages: Very cheap to run, tax and insure. Pretty cheap on maitenance costs.
Disadvantages: Not so cheap if you and your's aren't mechanically minded.

I will start with this because I think it is the thing we all want to know about when considering buying a car.
I paid nothing for the car as it was ...
...However it did cost me some money to fix a few faults which are common to Saxo's. For a 1996 SX you can expect to pay £600. That's if it's running right. Before you purchase I would ask the seller when the last time the brake system, drive shafts, clutch and exhaust was changed. These parts need replacing on an average every 3 years. Depending on the driver, the drive shafts will last longer but only with a steady driver, not a racer.

The Citroen Saxo.

Advantages: Quirky. Fun. French.
Disadvantages: Creaks and shakes. Slow. Unsafe.

"AAAhhh, it's a little Citroen Saxo." Yes, for about a year now I have been driving around in my little Saxo, and I now feel qualified to tell you something about it. This review, I'm afraid, comes four years too late, as the Saxo went out of production in the year 2000. It has since been replaced by a more 21st century, bubble-like car, the C3. There no question that the C3 is the nicer of the two, with its chic French curves, however at £9.000 ...
...accelerate quicker, but driving the Citroen Saxo is not about speed. Nor, in fact, is it about driving in comfort and luxury: The seats are perfectly comfy, but the interior seems to be made exclusively of black plastic. My car, the Saxo LX does not have air con, it does not have a sun roof, it does not have central locking, nor does it have electric windows, heck, it does not even have a CD player. But, it does have one redeeming feature- character. ...

Saxo 1.1 Forte

Advantages: nimble with good performance for its engine size, fun handling
Disadvantages: Steering takes getting used to, basic interior, basic equipment

Before I carry on with the review, I must confess to being a French car enthusiast, previously owning 205 and 309 models. I drive a Mini One and a classic Escort amongst other cars. However, I will try not to let this colour my writing on this particular car - which is owned by my girlfriend. The Saxo is the last in a line of lightwieght compact and fun french hatchbacks, which in many ways started with the 205 design and include the 106, and AX ...
...and mechanical layout. The 106 shares its shell with the saxo along with torsion bar rear suspension which gives the car a nice supple ride for its size. The Saxo has a reputation for not being particularly strong in an accident. If this is at all a problem for you then dont consider this car. It isnt the most reliable, having a number of niggly problems (none serious or expensive to fix). Again, if this is a problem for you, buy a Honda or Japanese/German ...

My little Saxo Desire

Advantages: Excellent price, cheap to run, nice looking, added extras in the Desire model.
Disadvantages: You get what you pay for.

...I opted to buy a Citroen Saxo Desire 1.1i three door hatchback. I bought this car from new in 1997 (P reg.) and still have it four years later. I have managed to eke out 110 mph out of this little baby, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone as I felt a little unsafe in such a small car going so fast. This car cost me just over £8,000 pounds with some added extras like an alarm and basic trim fittings, however now that prices have gone down ...
...and look for special buys Citroen has on purchasing new cars. I would especially recommend the Saxo to first time younger buyers, older people who will use it as a town run-around and those of you who do a lot of city or town driving. I would not recommend this car to people who do a lot of motorway or long distance drives. This is because of the comfort factor and those bigger car drivers who try to push little cars like Saxo’s into the inside ...

Nippy Saxo 1.1i East Coast

Advantages: economical, attarctive design
Disadvantages: would have liked central locking, electric windows

I don't know too much about cars so it will probably come to no surprise to those is similar positions to me that I took my husband along with me so i didn't get ripped off! After many searches and looking at many varieties of small car I chose a Saxo East Coast,1.1i 3 dr. The first thing to say about my nippy little car is that I love it. I chose a special edition, which really only meant I had a CD player rather than cassette radio, sporty seats ...
...each seat, yellow gear knob, metallic paint and blue colour on the speed dial etc. Basically the differences were visual rather than any thing different to the mechanics of the car. However, it gave the car a special feel to me. The car also came with immobiliser, apparantly adjustable steering wheel (can't say this for certain as the wheel is fine where it is so I've not needed to change it). The plastic dashboard bit in front of you has a nice ...

Citroen Saxo 1.1i Forte 3 door

Advantages: Small engine means its economical, cheap tax and insurance
Disadvantages: No power stearing, no ABS, no central locking, no alarm

Citroen Saxo 1.1i Forte 3 door --------------- About the car --------------- This is a great little car that has many good points and a few little niggles. I purchased this car in September 2000 (X-reg). I chose the colour Poseidon Blue (Metalic). At the time Citroen were giving a years free insurance away with the car, which as a young male driver this I found was invaluable. The basic on the road cost of the car was around £7200 after the cash ...
...I didn’t go to a Citroen main dealer to have it fitted as they charge around £45 + Vat an hour labour. Instead a friend of mine who owns a car audio and security fitting company installed it for me. So the cost was less than going to a main dealer. The total cost came to £280. ************ End update ************ ---------------- Driving the car ---------------- The pedals are quite close together but when you get used to that this isn’t ...

Saxo Vtr

Advantages: Same body kit, all the interior features, and 6 insurance groups less than the vts
Disadvantages: only got 8valves

The Citroen saxo Vtr a great car, With the features of - Power Assited Steering, electric windows, electric mirrors, sports seats, and a rev counter. The Citroen Saxo Vtr has a standard engine of a 1.6 8 vavles, only 8valves less than the Citroen Saxo Vts, But can be easily tuned to be as fast even faster than the vts, The vtr is also six insurance groups lower than the Citroen Saxo vts. The Citroen Saxo Vtr has the extended arches as well as the Citroen Saxo vts and west coast, unlike the 1.0i, and 1.1's. You can buy the saxo in many colours, But i prefer either the metallic blue, or the metallic black both very good clours to suit the vtr. ...

SiZe mAtTeRs

Advantages: strength,affordability,economy,equiptmentlevels.
Disadvantages: only seats 2 & peformance

The smart has sold well as it is like no other car on the new and used car market,Its unique styling inside and out is why it has done so well here on ciao.A family member recently bought a Smart Passion which so far is his best car he has bought new .His previous car a Citroen Saxo 1.1 Forte ,has been defeated in evely way by his new Smart but there is one thing , just one that the Saxo is better at,thats pulling away from the lights! Peformance *** 3 star 3/5 The Smart has a tiny 3 cylinder 599 cc engine which provides a tiny 54 bhp engine which gets the Smart to 60mph in 17.2 seconds. For a car with only a 599cc engine i think the smart Passion could be a lot worse for example the Smart Pure(entry level) has a even less powerful 44 bhp which arrives at 60 mph in 19.0 seconds!.The peformance ...

Want a cheap run about...

Advantages: Small, Fast, Cheap
Disadvantages: Looks are a little dated

that struck me was how comfortable the seats were. They were really soft and you just sank into them. There is plenty of space for your feet and the pedals arn't cramped. The seat position can be adjusted and the steering position is very good (even though the steering wheel is quite big!). For a car without power steering, the steering isn't too heavy and you shouldn't have any problem handling the car. Speed ~~~~~ Surprisingly for a small engine car, it was very quick of the mark. I currently have a citroen saxo 1.1i (1999 T reg) and it is no where nearly as quick of the mark as my old 205. It had good acceleration up to the third gear, fifth gear didn't really have any acceration. Thr brakes arn't the most responsive in the world, but are capable of safely stopping you while having complete control over the car at high speeds ...
