My own opinion and thoughts on this car.
I had this car as my first car, after driving past it parked up on the side of the road, I bought it for £2500 two and half years ago with 60,000 miles.
It's cheap to insure as a first car and still a fast, nippy little car because it's so light. I've found it to be very economical both around town and long distances, doing about 100 miles to a £10 when petrol was 100.9 a litre. The handling is amazing when it has decent tyres on Michelin Energy being the standard tyres used. Goes easily around corners and is easy to drive around traffic fitting through most gaps. The suspension that Citroen is famous for is brilliant, goes over any bumps easily without feeling them. Including large speed bumps. I've added Citroen Saxo VTR wheels to mine which adds loads of extra grip and has improved the handling greatly, although they are very close to the rear arch when there is a lot of weight in the back.
The gearbox is smooth and easy to work, it drops down a gear as soon as your foot is flat down. It never has a problem changing into gear or with reverse.
The engine sounds as smooth and quiet as the day I have it, never had any engine problems starts from cold even after a week or two of not being used.
The inside is spacious for a small car with adjustable front seats, there is lots of room in the boot and the seats fold to make more space if you want to put something large in the back. The seats are comfy on long journeys and are a nice grey shade not looking to floral.
I find it a fun little car to drive all though long distances in the summer are missing air-con instead you get to smell the fresh air and have all the windows and the sunroof down. The handling deteriorates when you have passengers in the back or any large weight.
They are not a very safe car and are only 2 stars NCAP rated and I have known people who have crashed their Saxo and the air bags haven't even gone off when they should of. The panels on the car do feel thin and weak.
I have never had anything major go wrong with mine just small bits that you would expect on a nearly 8 year old car with 90,000 miles on it. A few problems common to the Saxo are the sunroofs and aerials leaks usually caused by a blocked pipe or loose seal, the steering sometimes knock meaning the strut top bearings need replacing, the airbag lights often flash when the wires under the seats come loose. Standard brakes are beyond rubbish you might as well not have brakes, it has disk brakes at the front and drums on the back, I have upgraded the brakes on my Citroen Saxo VTS to those off a Peugeot 306 gti-6 which have made amazing difference so I plan to do the same to my 1.4, all it needs is a bit of grinding and they fit straight on.
Citroen main dealers are very expensive but Saxo parts are very easy to get hold of parts from other places and either fit them yourself or get someone to do it cheaper. Some dealer branches are not very helpful others are it varies which one you go to. Servicing is also expensive from the main dealer and can be done by your self or a back street garage, the Haynes manual for the Citroen Saxo is very helpful.
You get a 1.4 Citroen Saxo for around £1800 which is very cheap compared to other cars of that age, they are definitely worth that kind of money being a fun cheap to insure, economical car. I think the outside looks stylish with smooth lines, the new style front end on the Mk2 has modernised them a lot. My model has a spoiler on the back which finishes it off nicely. The colour coded bits look nice blending in well with the rest of the car.
I would definitely recommend this car to anyone either as a first car or a general car with cheap insurance and tax.
I love my Citroen Saxo so much as a second car I went and brought the top model Citroen Saxo but still have my original one.
I hope this review helps anyone looking at these cars.
Advantages: Very sporty and stylish Disadvantages: Ver cramped cabin
...start my opinion on the Citroen Saxo, I would like just to let you know that I don’t actually own this car, but am very near to purchasing one. I have trawled through internet sites, opinions, magazines and company reps to gain the knowledge that I have; I hope it helps anyone interested in the Citroen Saxo!
The following in formation is based on the model that I am considering purchasing which is;
A NEW (New number-plate) Saxo Furio 1.4 ... ...service, we also own a Citroen Xantia, in which we have had trouble with the remote central locking. We knew it was the batteries because the little flashing red light on the key wasn’t working. When we asked him for new batteries, he said we would have to book the whole car in for a service! What a rip off; it would have probably cost about £250.
**VALUATION**
Saxos hold there value relatively well but not as good as others like the Volkswagens, ...

...back on the phone to Citroen and they replied, it's a computer fault and it's not covered by warranty it would cost me around £2000 to fix. I explained it was a new car incase they forgot and they said and I quote, "thats not our problem. You wont get your car returned until you pay for the repairs" I told them I'd call them back and they agreed to this.
So I hung up the phone and then picked it up to call my solicitor. He contacted Citroen and ... ...and still goes on.
Citroen refused to return my car to me and I have never seen it since. They eventually sold it at a local auction as a repossesed car and gave me the credit rating to go with it. They will not speak to me and have not replied to my solicitor at all. Then a few weeks ago I recieved a letter from them stating I owe them £8560 for the remainding balance on the car!
So all in all you could say I'm less than pleased about this matter, ...

Advantages: Cheap to run Disadvantages: Well it just is....close to boring
...with the Clio - the Citroen was far more economical. Although it feels less robust, more about that later, it does seem to handle well. The automatic gearbox works well, stamping on the throttle kicks down the gears - there is certainly enough power there when you need it. I probably won't ever consider a car with "gears" again. Point and Steer can't beat it. Most of my driving is in town anyway. OK I was sold, not overjoyed, but I was mobile.
Running ... ...was always dirty looking even when it was clean - this does always look OK. The paint is quite hard - the Renault always seemed to pick up scratches and scuffs. This car responds to good clean, it always looks like a funeral directors car when it's really clean! Still just as economical. I service my own cars. There has been no leaks, unusual oil use, squeaks rattles, irritations, the plugs are an absolute pig to get to, but there is always something ...

Advantages: Looks ok, good engine Disadvantages: BUILD QUALITY, small interior, BUILD QUALITY, Pedals to close
Well what can I say, I owned this so called 'car' for a full 3 days before promptly driving back to the dealer and swapping it for a much older but much better Ford. I had been given lots of advice on what to buy as a decent small 'Hot Hatch' but this didn’t deliver on any of the promises. Lets start inside, the cabin is badly built, with cheap plastics, rattles and bits flying of. Most noticeably the mirror in the drivers side Sun Visor during a ... ...day and everything just feels so... i don’t know a word but low quality kind of says it. The worst thing about the interior by far though are the pedals, I will advise anyone who is looking to buy one to wear their biggest shoes on the test drive, that way you know what it will be like and wont have any nasty surprises, you literally press all three pedals when you try and do anything, its so annoying! However the dials are easy to read and use, ...

citroensaxo vtr 1.4 r reg.i have own my saxo for about 15 months.it's a great little sporty car.my saxo has not been modified so it's still all factory fitted. it's a still great looking car. it feels and drives perfect.the Fuel consumption is not to great but you still get your moneys worth.this model as been reliable for me as i'v only had to change the brakes tires and back box since i've had it but i've only had 15 months.i think the road handling is great as i think i sticks to the road well alot better than my last car anyway which is no longer with us.anyway these cars are pretty cheap to buy these days and the insurance is cheap to which is ideal for young drivers.plus i've driven the 2000 model a few times which from my experience feels and drives the same as the one i own it just looks newer. ...

CitroenSaxo Vtr Gold 1.4
Hello All...
This car is great! Very quick and nippy! Easy to park etc...I Have owned the car for 7 years now and it has only let me down once or twice! The first problem was that everytime i pulled up to the traffic lights or up to a junction the car would start to over rev and start to stutter (almost like coughing...) the stuttering would start to get louder then the exhaust would start to rattle and then the engine would switch off. The car wiould then not start for a few minuets. I would then have to sit there and wait for it to kick in again!
I looked around on the internet to see if anyone else has been having the same problem but no luck couldnt find anything! So i looked in the yellow pages and found a tech guy who came round my house and had a look at the Vtr. he wired all of the engine up with his ...

CitroenSaxo VTS 1.6 16v
Citroen is a French car manufacturer that produces amazing rally cars and also general cars for road use some of which are made with the rally versions in mind. French build quality and reliability are often slated but after having 5 French cars they really aren't all that bad, they certainly have character and are very unique.
The Saxo VTS has a 1.6 16v (1587 cc) 4 cylinder engine the top model Saxo which produces 120bhp at the flywheel with 107 lb-ft it as a book top speed figure of 127bhp all though I have had mine faster as standard as figures aren't always 100% accurate and can even vary from car to car but they won't be far out.
It weights only 935kg so has a lot of power and not a lot of weight making it a rather fast car with a nice 0-60 in just 7.6 seconds. They are a very small hot hatch ...
