Advantages Advantages It consumes very little

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little uncomfortable at driving

And so, while ciao.com Italia is inaccessible (don't tell me why... because I don't know!!), I think it's time to talk about Citroen Saxo 1.5D 3P SX! Why Diesel? Because on the average I make 40.000 km/year (obviously until now... actually my rhythm is 1.000 km/week...!), and i don't like to spend a lot of money to get gasoline... Actually with diesel I save 500 italian lire (or so 0.26 Euro) for each litre, and the car, for what I know, doesn't consume how a petrol car... don't tell me why, because I don't know it!!! 1.5 I didn't take a bigger car for two reasons. At first because consumes ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliability & Mechanical Durability, Fuel Economy, handling

Disadvantages Disadvantages Driver Comfort, Technical Problems, Citroen Servicing

I purchased my R Reg Saxo 1.5 d sx in 1998 new from my local dealer in Birmingham. It was the first car I ever bought (with a little assistance) and a car for a new driver it is superb. It costs little to run in comparison to an equivalent petrol car, with cheap insurance (Citroen often give a years free insurance with the car), getting roughly 500-550 miles from a full tank of diesel that costs me about £30-34 pounds a time. It is also safe, with only adequate performance and a drivers airbag as standard. The car feels good to drive with nice handling, reasonable low and mid end performance ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good value car

Disadvantages Disadvantages at times feels like a motorised shopping trolley

I bought my Saxo almost 3 years ago now, and i have had very little trouble with it at all. The initial decision to buy the diesel Saxo, was that i was travelling a lot of miles at the time, and due the fact i'd had my last car nicked, i needed a car with free insurance so it didn't cost a fortune for that. Whilst I do have niggles with it, mainly an annoying rattle behind the dash on the passenger side, i am overall extremely happy with the car. as for fuel economy, on long runs in performs extremely well. A while ago i drove from Bolton to Aberdeen, travelling all the way at around 80 and ... more

Advantages Advantages 130 Miles on a tenner! Looks modern

Disadvantages Disadvantages Given bad names by boy racers

I'm going to break this review down into a few sectors to give you some good information! Mechanical - The clutch on both of the Saxos I've had saw the biting point nearly all the way at the top of the pedal, this also seemed to be an issue when they were new. They also don't like going into reverse, my old one I would have to keep going from neutral to reverse all the time until I heard the gear engage, in my new one it goes into reverse first time but it often makes that awful crunching noise. The engine however is brilliant, my old one lasted 30K miles before the cam-belt snapped on it ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Very economical, reliable, and quite pokey

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gears are fairly difficult, the pedal on the clutch is really high, it is easy to ride the clutch without realising

The Citroen Saxo 1.5diesel is a reliable, fairly comfortable and extremely economical. To compare it with another, my Saxo has an 'r' registration, compared to that of my Mother's Peuguot 206 which has 'y' registration. She has just had to purchase a new gear box, whereas mine is still going strong. The only problem that I would call a problem, (and not a niggly fault) is the break pads have a tendency to go, but then that just could be my driving! If I was going to recommend a sound, reliable, safe and economical car it would definitely be this one, and it looks pretty cool if you jazz it up ... more
