Why Diesel?
Because on the average I make 40.000 km/year (obviously until now... actually my rhythm is 1.000 km/week...!), and i don't like to spend a lot of money to get gasoline... Actually with diesel I save 500 italian lire (or so 0.26 Euro) for each litre, and the car, for what I know, doesn't consume how a petrol car... don't tell me why, because I don't know it!!!
... ...for two reasons.
At first because consumes more.
And then because it costs more.
And then because in Salerno-Reggio Calabria (the motorway I run through almost daily), actually is a buildingsite... and the speed limit isn't high...
3 Doors.
This is simple!! I'm alone!!! :)
"And couldn't you buy the version with 5 doors?"
Yes... but... when I buyed my car, I didn't had more money (instead ... more

1.5 I didn't take a bigger car for two reasons. At first because consumes more. And then because it costs more. And then because in Salerno-Reggio Calabria (the motorway I run through almost daily), actually is a buildingsite... and the speed limit isn't high...
3 Doors. This is simple!! I'm alone!!! :) "And couldn't you buy the version with 5 doors?" Yes... but... when I buyed my car, I didn't had more money (instead now I had more debts...), and so I didn't buy that version.
SX. Is the more complete version. It has fog-lights, clima, and other little devices that now I don't remind. Certainly it's to prefer respect the X version, because if you want to add that accessories, you spend more money... They are clever at Citroen, or not?
How does the car go? I drive this car since 1999. And I try it in all conditions... sunny, wet, earth, sea, accident...ehm!
The roadholding is very good. I can say that in motorway, overtaking the TIRs, I ezpected that the car dances a lot... instead no. The strain is feeled lightly. And this, for a little car, is a big thing.
Consumptions. More reduced. I had the best last summer when, going to Tropea at 100 km/h at average, I consumed 26 km/l... what for a leech!! Actually, with a road composite at 80% motorway, and at 20% localway and cityroad, I have an average of 21/22 km/l, and it's really not little.
The only defect it has, according to me: it's uncomfortable to drive. Driving a lot, I cannot find an optimal position... and the result is a little back's pain...
Space: fairly good. The bonnet is perhaps a little small (but for my requirements is enough), in the back the passengers mourn (but I buy car for me... not for the others!! eheheh), the dashboard is very small.
The seat belts works very good (I proved they... unfortunately...); and lightness is more functional.
Ah! I almost forgot it!! For lovers... it's very good!! eheheheheh!
PS: the price I wrote here, are in Italian Lire. It represents how much I completely spent. The customer service, obvously, is referred at Italian workshop.
...The engine was replaced, but Citroen failed to do it properly, leaking oil into the clutch. Despite my insistence that it was slipping they failed to fix this in two services and I was forced to take it to another garage to have it repaired. I also suffered from a problem yet to be resolved even in new Saxos, whereby the air bag fail light comes of as a result of poor wiring. A friend of mine also suffered from this problem and it requires a trip ...

Advantages: Good value car Disadvantages: at times feels like a motorised shopping trolley
I bought my Saxo almost 3 years ago now, and i have had very little trouble with it at all. The initial decision to buy the diesel Saxo, was that i was travelling a lot of miles at the time, and due the fact i'd had my last car nicked, i needed a car with free insurance so it didn't cost a fortune for that. Whilst I do have niggles with it, mainly an annoying rattle behind the dash on the passenger side, i am overall extremely happy with the car. ... ...well. A while ago i drove from Bolton to Aberdeen, travelling all the way at around 80 and the car did almost 70mpg at that. THe only other problem i have with it is that in the dry it handles marvellously, but in the wet it corners like its on ball-bearings ...

Advantages: Very economical, reliable, and quite pokey Disadvantages: Gears are fairly difficult, the pedal on the clutch is really high, it is easy to ride the clutch without realising
The Citroen Saxo 1.5diesel is a reliable, fairly comfortable and extremely economical. To compare it with another, my Saxo has an 'r' registration, compared to that of my Mother's Peuguot 206 which has 'y' registration. She has just had to purchase a new gear box, whereas mine is still going strong. The only problem that I would call a problem, (and not a niggly fault) is the break pads have a tendency to go, but then that just could be my driving!
... ...and economical car it would definitely be this one, and it looks pretty cool if you jazz it up with a VTR spoiler and nice alloys. (Although it wouldn't be quick enough for any boy racers out there!)
It is absolutely perfect for someone who drives long distances or needs it for work but doesn't have the luxury of a company car. ...

Advantages: Fuel economy and size Disadvantages: Flimsy panels and road noise
I bought my Saxo in 1999 with 3 years fully comp insurance ( the reason for buying ). I bought the diesel version because of the high milage I drive and also, diesel is 30 pence per litre cheaper in Ireland. The car has now clocked well over 120,000 miles and has given me no bother. I've even managed to squeeze 911 miles out of the 10 gallon tank before filling up. I have the basic X model with the VTR alloys as the standard wheels where unsteady ...
