******UPDATE AT BOTTOM******
I have been buying brand new Citroen Saxo's since I brought my first car in 1997. I brought a 1.1i at first, then a 1.4i and about year ago I finally progressed to my dream car, a Saxo 1.6i VTS.
I went to my local dealership in Peterborough (where I had brought the first two Saxo's, and where my Dad had brought a total of 5 brand new Citroen's over a period of 7 years). I found the customer service at this branch appalling.
I was constantly patronised by the salesman from when I entered the showroom, to when I left. He made it very clear that, because of my age (21 at the time) he did not believe that I had the funds to purchase a car at that price. He was rude, arrogant and incompetent.
I wrote to Citroen UK head office to complain. They took 5 weeks to respond and arranged a meeting between the manager of the dealership and myself to discuss my requirements. I noticed a radical change in the attitude of the staff in the dealership, after my complaint and the fact that I had mentioned how many brand new cars my family had brought in the past few years.
The rest of the sale went smoothly and I have had my Citroen Saxo VTS for about a year now. It's a great car for performance, reliability and it is a pleasure to drive.
I have test driven a lot of "hot hatches" including the Clio, Tigra and Fiesta and none of the match the Saxo's pace and performance.
The only other downside to the car, is it does drink a lot of petrol. It tends to have very similar urban and non-urban fuel consumption cycles, so I costs quite a lot to travel long distances.
******UPDATE******
As this was my first ever opinion on Ciao (and it’s quite poor), I have decided to update it with some more detail about the car and it’s spec and features.
PASSENGER COMFORT
The seats are sports car style (like bucket seats), so you can drive like a mad man and your passengers will not fall out of their seats! They are velour upholstered as standard, and look and feel great. The headrests and seat positions are fully adjustable for maximum enjoyment (!), but, as in most small cars, the foot space and the room in the back are lacking.
PERFORMANCE
Max Speed - 127mph (although it does go faster than this, erm…..apparently!!!) Acceleration 0-60 - 7.6 seconds
LOAD SPACE
Seats up - 280 litres (9.9 cubic ft) Seats down filled to waistline - 640 litres (22.6 cubic ft) Seats down filled to roof - 953 litres (33.7 cubic ft)
You can get about ten 24 500ml can packs of duty free lager in the boot, which is enough for any discerning bootlegger!
ENGINE - 1.6I 16V
Cubic Capacity (cc) - 1587 Bore and Stroke (mm) - 78.5 x 82 Compression ratio - 10.8:1 Max Horse Power - 120 Max rpm - 6600 Max Torque DIN (Ib ft/rpm) - 107/5200 Fuel System - Multipoint fuel injection CO2 Emissions (g/Km) - 201
CONSUMPTION
I know I said in my original opinion, that the fuel consumption was quite similar on longer journeys as it was around town. I had some feedback in the comments section asking for some figures on the consumption side of things. I think the main reason it feels like it’s using about the same amount of fuel on long journeys, is that the urban cycle is so high in comparison to the extra urban. I have included a comparison with the 1.1 model, and you can see that the difference is quite apparent:
Having said all of this, if you can afford to run it, this is a fantastic car to drive. Dropping it down to 3rd to overtake at about 50mph gives you the acceleration of a top sports car, and makes you feel like you are in the cockpit of a fighter jet.
If you can’t afford to buy one, why not steal one! (That was a joke by the way!).
Advantages: Fast and fun to drive Disadvantages: Not ideal transport for more than two adults
I have had my Saxo VTR nearly a year now. I bought it as a wee xmas pressie to myself. I have the new model with the bug eye lights and the 100bhp engine. This means my car does 0-60 in just over 9 secondss Varrrrrrrroooooom
The Saxo is a small car but great fun to drive, so if you are looking to travel with people in the back most of the time this is not the car for you. Remote central locking and bucket seats. As parkieskywalker mentions these are to keep your passengers firmly in their seats as you fly round corners!
The car comes in a wide variety of colours but most of them tend to be ...

The Citroen Saxo VTS is a great little car. Small and compact but with performance and handling you will miss when you move on from them!
I had a Citroen Saxo 1.1i for 2 years, another great little run around, before I upgraded to the Saxo VTS. Although the 1.1i was pokey and responsive for its engine size, the Saxo VTS was a completely different animal compared. I have since had two Saxo VTSs, both from new: a Y reg and a 52 plate. The biggest disadvantage I personally found in my 6 years as a Citroen Saxo owner was the dealerships. Although generally helpful, the dealerships do tend to forget to provide a friendly service post-sale. For example, if there's a minor ...

Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 16v
Citroen is a French car manufacturer that produces amazing rally cars and also general cars for road use some of which are made with the rally versions in mind. French build quality and reliability are often slated but after having 5 French cars they really aren't all that bad, they certainly have character and are very unique.

The first thing I did was go out and buy some good sports tyres for her so her handling could be at it's best, after a while of getting used to a slightly different car I couldn't be more impressed with her, ...

Any car produced by Citreon is going to cause you problems, let me tell you. Whether its an image thing or simply the build/ride quality of your machine, Citreon dont cut the mustard. That is of course, apart from the wonderful Saxo VTS. It is a little box of tricks on 4 wheels. It has a 1.8i engine pumping out enough horses to keep the Cheltenham Gold Cup busy for days. The Top speed is booked at 127 but im sure that is more than fast enough for ... ...age of all VTS drivers is about 18. It seems every little rich boy has one as his first car to wrap around the nearest lamp post. Shame really as they are mighty in the right hands (i.e. me!) They look like a Peugeot 106 and drive like a 106. Basically, they are a 106! Remember, Citreon and Peugeot overlap a lot on development and parts due to their parent ownership. The Car is very small with not a lot of room for Luggage, but then again, its a ...

I love this car, with 120bhp (22mph more than the newer VTR;s) you wouldn't think it would be too much faster or worthwhile buying, but believe me IT IS!
The only other car i had before my VTS is, yes, you guessed it, a VTR! As soon as i drove a VTS, i had to buy it because it was just such a power difference. Some specifications are below of the two cars.
1.6 (1587 cc) VTR - SOHC (Single overhead camshaft) 8 valve - 90 bhp - 0-60 in 9.3 seconds ... ...are 98 bhp!)

1.6 (1587 cc) VTS - DOHC (Double overhead camshaft) 16 valve - 120 bhp - 0-60 in 7.2 seconds - top speed = 127 mph
Insurance group 14
While purchasing the car at the dealership, i was displeased as the man selling me the car was rather rude etc because he thought the car was too fast/expensive for a 19 year old (im 20 now) to buy, so i wasn't too pleased with that.
The VTS does drink a hell of a lot of petrol (a ...

Advantages: Great town car, economical to run and have managed to fit an amazing amount of stuff in (including a 6 ft tree out of the sunroof, a complete patio set and a full-on Ikea buy-out - not bad!). Cheap to service and is quite nippy when it isn't full! Disadvantages: Can't adjust rake of driver seat so my husband has to stand on the clutch pedal to get in! Also, very low braking on the pedal - this is a design issue & technically safe but can feel v last minute.
I bought a metallic green CitroenSaxo Forte 1.1 3dr in April 2000 for the princely sum of £6k which was £1200 off the list price at the time because no-one seemed to want metallic Woodland Green.
It has been a very reliable car - now done 45K miles and apart from one warranty niggle (airbag light faulty) and the stepper motor having just had to be replaced it has been fine.
The positives are it is cheap to run, rarely needs oil / water etc topped up and we have only just had to replace two of the Michelin tyres it came with. Great for town driving - a bit Fiat Punto on the motorway - feels a bit tinny for passengers, but handles fine. Easy to park, cheap to service (and car tax) and surprisingly spacious for carrying loads (back seat folds to 45 degrees, or flat if you remove the seat pad.
On the negative front, the airbag ...
Advantages: Spacious, Reliable, Comfort, Boot Space, Well Equipped Disadvantages: Slow Acceleration, Condensation in the boot and engine
A Good mid sized family saloon. There are many advantages to having one of these cars. One they look modenr put up against todays saloons and will always look presentable for a long time. They don't have problems with rust and corrosion anywhere on the body. Spacious and comfortable with plent of room for 5 adults with leg space. The boot space is more than adequate definately enough for a set of golf clubs and more. Comes well equipped front electric windows, P.A.S, comfortable seats, Catalytic Converter, Later models come with airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners.
Disadvantages of this car follows: Poor Acceleration for a 1.6i same engine found in the early CitroenSaxosI believe. Has to push some weight though, it's not a sports car so don't expect sports car handling or speed. Doesn't have much top end speed but will cruise ...
