I have had my Saxo VTR nearly a year now. I bought it as a wee xmas pressie to myself. I have the new model with the bug eye lights and the 100bhp engine. This means my car does 0-60 in just over 9 secondss Varrrrrrrroooooom
The Saxo is a small car but great fun to drive, so if you are looking to travel with people in the back most of the time this is not the car for you. If you are looking for a fast fun car that handles well in and out of town you have just found what you are looking for.
The VTR has a 1.6, 100bhp engine. It comes with a CD player, sunroof, Electric windows, rear spoiler, Flared wheel arches, 14” alloy wheels, Side skirts, body coloured bumpers Driver’s airbag power steering Remote central locking and bucket seats. As parkieskywalker mentions these are to keep your passengers firmly in their seats as you fly round corners!
The car comes in a wide variety of colours but most of them tend to be metallic finish which is £250 extra. I chose black as I like that colour and it doesn’t cost an extra £250 the only other choice at that price is the horrible canary yellow Eurgh.
The car is quite cheap to run petrol wise but insurance cost can be quite high I think its insurance group 7. I got a years free insurance on mine and you could have another 3 named drivers added to this at no extra cost. Also I got a 3 year (30, 000 mile ) warranty. Petrol wise it averages about 45 miles to the gallon.
The CD player which comes with the car is pretty naff but does have a good bass output. I bought myself a new CD player though and its very easy to install your self, you basically unplug the old one, which can be tricky in a new car as the clips are stiff, the plug in new one. Installing new speakers can be a bit tricky especially in the back.
I am quite petite and I find the foot well quite small and find myself driving with my foot at an angle at times to avoid pressing on the brake and accelerator at the same time! Takes a wee bit of getting used to.
Inside the car has handy side pockets in the doors, under the radio unit there is a wee storage place which is handy for putting your mobile or wallet. Just remember to take it out when you leave the car or its in full view to passers by! Both front seats have pockets behind them and also there is the all-important glove compartment.
The car is very good value for money at around £9000, the other cars in this sort of class are the Clio, Toyota Yaris, ka, Peugeot 106. But for £9000 for any of these makes you are looking at a model closer to the base model with not as much power as the VTR.
I love my wee saxo it’s a sporty car at unsporty prices, there is a big second hand market in them and if you are into modifications there is plenty that can be done to this little pocket rocket.

Good op, pretty thorough, nice to read about small problems you don't notice in the showroom!
Thanks!

Well written opinion - you have condensed quite a good deal of info into it - good stuff! A little Xmas pressie??!! I call this a stonking great big pressie! Want to buy me one???!!!
Advantages: Fantastic speed, reliability and performance. Looks good and handles very well. Disadvantages: Poor service from the dealership. Drinks a lot of fuel.

Review of Citroen Saxo 1.6i
Advantages: Great town car, economical to run and have managed to fit an amazing amount of stuff in (including a 6 ft tree out of the sunroof, a complete patio set and a full-on Ikea buy-out - not bad!). Cheap to service and is quite nippy when it isn't full! Disadvantages: Can't adjust rake of driver seat so my husband has to stand on the clutch pedal to get in! Also, very low braking on the pedal - this is a design issue & technically safe but can feel v last minute.
