I've fitted a Living room Door in the back as well as other large items that you would normally expect to pay delivery for. Inside the car is very comfortable, no complaints here. The engine is superb, a two litre 16 valve that just purrs along, perhaps a little too quiet for some. Its a very sedate, calm drive, nothing at all exciting about it, but I like the businesslike control that you get. The engine is also very flexible, lots of Torque, sometimes feels like an automatic. My only complaint is the gear ratios, you need to get into 2nd gear very quickly, which is no good when your in a hurry off a standing start. Once into 2nd gear it really begins to pull with 60 MPH coming up in about 10 seconds from standstill. Top speed is rated at 120 MPH. The downside is that its thirsty, averaging around 30 to 35 MPG and sometimes dropping down to a mere 25 MPG, OUCH !!!
This car, along with all Xantias is fitted with the famous Self Levelling - Hydro Elastic Suspension. This gives the car a superb ride. Probably the most comfortable car to ride in its class. If it goes wrong its a nightmare to fix and costs a fortune, so get a good warranty.
The car is all electric with Electric ; Windows, Sunroof, Door Mirrors, along with an adequate Radio Cassette. Other standard equipment includes an Alarm, an Engine Immobiliser with a keypad, height adjustable Steering Wheel, buttons for changing the settings on the Radio on the Steering Wheel, split fold rear seat, central locking with an infra red remote locking system. A cavernous boot with 2 meters of space lengthwise. Extra Fog lights in the front bumper. Finally a very nice looking & feeling upholstery.
Altogether a well built & well designed people carrier. Plenty of room for 5 adults & lots of nice little extras. I love it & I recommend it to anyone with just a few thousand to spare.

...on a journey in a Citroen Xantia and I have to say I was very impressed. I have always been a fan of Citroens, we've had a couple of Citroen vans over the past 10 years (C25 and Berlingo) and both have been incredibly reliable and economical (or as economical as you can expect a van to be). The Xantia is no different. The engine has plenty of power and can accelerate without too much hassle at all. The interior is very nice also. There is bags of ... ...cars excellent handling and balance under loads of all sizes. Also Citroen are offering a wide range of finance packages at the moment which are very helpful. They also have a cashback offer on selected models from their product range. Id certainly reccommend the Xantia as an excellent family car. ...

5) Citroen in their wisdom mounted the spare wheel under the car floor. When I had a puncture I found out that the wheel security bolt had rusted, so had to hack away the mounting just to change the tyre.
6) Last but not least, the hydropneumatic suspension was a nightmare. At parking speeds the front would rise so you could n't see the end of the bonnet. The suspension collapsed when the car was 4.5 years old, fortunately I part ... ...will never own a Citroen again.
If a manufacturer is going to make a soulless, uninvolving car, I suggest they make it reliable and safe. The original Xantia has one of the poorest crash test safety in its class. At this rate Citroen haven't got a chance. ...

Advantages: I can't think of any! Disadvantages: Too many to mention, please read on.
...I have done by my Citroen Xantia. In two years of running this poor excuse for a car, I have suffered the humiliation of breaking down no less than three times within a 14 month period. I will list below some of the many faults and rough repair costs I have encountered:
1. New engine & Clutch - £950.00
2. New mid & rear exhaust sections - £160.00
3. New brake pads x 3 sets - £180.00
4. New brake discs x 2 sets - £280.00
5. New battery - £35.00
... ...op. But I consider it necessary to warn people of the dangers involved in running one of these pathetic cars. I will be replacing mine very soon, and will never buy a citroen again.
WARNING: DO NOT BUY A CITROEN XANTIA, OR YOU MIGHT JUST LIVE TO REGRET IT! ...

I am surprised to read the poor review by Degsy. I have owned a Xantia 1.9D N reg for nearly 2 years now which I bought from a friend who had run it for about 2 years himself. During the time my friend had it he twice drove to Italy and back, the second time towing a medium sized caravan. There were no problems. Since I have had it, I drove all round the south of England and through all Wales and back to Manchester on just over one tank of diesel ... ...year it sailed through its MoT test requiring only one rear bulb to be replaced. It is about to go for this year's test and I am only aware of one low tyre to replace and flexi brake hoses at the front, and wiper blades. Very cheap and reliable is what I would call that car. Just bought my Third Xantia, 2nd Xantia 2. Xantia second hand so residual value not an issue. Reliability better than any volvo, saab, ford, vauxhall, opel, rover and renault I have ever owned. Next car will be a C5. Ok if you use main dealer repairs can be expensive but that goes for most main dealers. Ride is superb , starts first time everytime no matter what the british weather throws at it. Drives well in the snow . Buy the 1.9TD or the 2.0 ... ...from European parts importers and just pay for labour never had any problems except rear ride height control which is a little nylon balljoint link which kept popping off. Stuck it on with a blob of silicon sealant adhesive, end of problem. Drove to St tropez from lincolnshire via folkstone ferry 1am Friday morning arrived Grimauld (next to St Tropez)11.30am Satureday not a hitch. The CitroenXantia2.0HDi estate is a great family car, I purchased a v reg 6 months ago and have never had any problems with it. I also find it very cheap to run compared with other estate cars and have saved quite a lot compared to my old car which was also a diesel. Citroen often have a repututaion for making outrageous, individual cars. The only thing that is outrageous about the Xantia2.0 Hdi is its remarkable fuel consumption, power and how great an all round car it is.
The Hdi delivers power unlike almost any other diesel car on the market that I am aware of yet offers extremely low diesel consumption due to the innovative way Citroen hav edesigned this engine. Possibly only Audi can compete on this scale but as a reasonably priced family car they struggle. As always with modern day Citroens this car is extremely reliable and a joy to drive with that famous Citroen suspension making any surface extremely smooth. It has many small added features which others manufacturers charge for as added extras, so many in fact I couldnt even start to list them.

?s been rock steady. I bought the car with 60k on the clock from a Citroen specialist. All Xantia require a full overhaul of the suspension at 60,000 so make sure it?s been done otherwise you?ll have a big bill.
The interior is free from squeaks and rattles, but the suspension has a habit of groaning in cold weather. There?s also a tendency to over inflate the back end, which comes down with a bit of a thump after a couple of minutes driving.
It returns about 350 miles on a full tank (60 litres) of unleaded, which is better than my previous 2.0 Mondeo auto, but not very good by today?s standards.
Insurance is pricey, being a group 15 ? most companies will laugh at you if you are under 25. I pay £600 per year (25 with 8 years no claims), but I did have quotes of over £2,000.
