I have owned two Xsara's, both excellent for my everyday needs. My first Xsara was a Y reg in Wicked red metallic, came with electric windows, one electric mirror, air con, 4 airbags, rear headrests and the list continues....
As usual a diverted drive around a industrial estate ended up with me falling in love with the Xsara, its sleek cute design caught my eye,
A few days later i visited the Citroen garage, found out some more information on the Xsara, seemed a cracking car, i dont want to moan and groan but when things never seem to go right you have to let others know, thinking your doing the right move passing on bad comments.
As for my local Citroen dealer..... for those who have experienced it ill say no more.
The first Xsara drove fine for the first few weeks and suddenly seemed to develop a fault, it was loosing power and cutting out, i only owned the car for about 3 months in total but Citroen had it most of the time, driving round in their unpractical courtesy cars.
They could never find any problem with the car. After many months Citroen gave me a mega deal on a brand new Xsara, i got £1500 more for my old Xsara than i paid for it.
My new Xsara turned up, metallic Blue, thistime on a 53 Reg. The new Xsara was just as the old one, same spec, if you have never driven a Xsara and you are thinking of buying one here i have put together a few points to consider.
When driving away from a standstill the car seems to have a flat point, requires alot more than normal acceleration, The clutch is strange too, i found that i stalled about 8 times before managing to leave the garage.
The rear window is small because its on a slant, making rear visability difficult, the Xsara has many cool gadgets, it will tell you which door is open when moving off, if the handbrake is on a beeping noise is activated.
I found the fuel gadge would only be a correct reading if you were on a dead level road, other wise you imagine there is more fuel than the actually is. The remote central locking remote with the key built in, i thought this was a very nice looking remote, but very large, button press release for the key that folds away, tailgate release button included.
Fuel was good on the Xsara it managed about 32 MPG costing about £45 - £48 pounds to fill the tank.
The electric mirror switch was for the passenger side only, electric window switch with drivers Auto wind down.
Servicing cost and parts i have been told are expensive, didnt own mine long enough to experience these!
My best bet is to leave the 1.4 alone find a 1.6, much more power when moving from a stand still, the car is very heavy for the 1.4 to cruise with, also choose the SX as the LX gives you the feel of being under equipt for the car you feel you are driving, also the SX gives you two electric wing mirrors, rear electric windows, some with climate control and 99% come with fitted alarm.
