A review on Citrus Tango.

Having recently tried the regular Orange Tango and found it ok, but in my opinion not as good as the Apple, I thought I would give the Citrus flavour a try. It is a fairly recent addition to the Tango range and this was going to be my first taste. I was curious to find out if it would be a refreshing drink to have in this hot weather. I know a lot of people prefer cola's, but it is worth trying the fruit soft drinks for a change.

A Few Facts

+ When Tango was launched by Corona in 1950 it was different from their other soft drinks because it contained real fruit.
+ Other Tango flavours are Orange, Apple and Cherry.

My Experience/Opinion

On opening the can (with the usual clunk, hiss sound) I could immediately detect the aroma of lime with a faint orange smell. I was surprised as I thought it would be mainly of orange with a hint of lemon. My second surprise was when I poured the drink into a glass. Instead of being clear, like the Orange Tango, it was cloudy and looked like a very weak orange squash. It was quite fizzy and tingled on the tongue, but difficult to see if the bubbles continued to rise after a while. It seemed to lose its fizziness quicker than I expected (though the passing of wind later on was proof that it was fizzy.)

So, the important question - What did it taste like? Well, the first taste I detected was of tangy lime, then a faint orange flavour lingering in the background. It didn't seem as sweet as some other fizzy drinks. However, despite the lime flavour I could still detect the sweeteners in the background. It does leave that sort of dry feeling to the inside of your mouth that you get with lemons. (Not that I am in the habit of eating lemons, but you know what I mean.)

Would I recommend it? If you like the taste of limes, which as I have said is the main flavour, and don't mind sweeteners, then yes. It is quite low calorie and doesn't contain that much sugar. As far as fizzy drinks go it is quite natural and contains no caffiene.

Was it refreshing?I can't say that it was actually. It was straight from the fridge and icy which was nice on a hot sunny day. However, a cold drink of water would probably have quenched my thirst better. I quite liked the taste but I still prefer the Apple Tango!

Cost - _...Instore... 4 330ml cans for £1.00. Individual cans can be up to 65p depending where you buy them. I believe this comes in 500ml bottles as well. Citrus Tango seems to be available at supermarkets.
