...and plan for future turns. Civilization 2 has remained on my shelf of most played games because it is a rare turn-based game that encapsulates many of the things that are good about strategy games.
Following the simple installation process, you are presented with the menu screen that allows you to start a new game, load a saved game or edit the options. When you start a new game, you are presented with a plethora of set-up choices with which to ... ...and over again though, that Civilization is not about the graphics, it is the game-play that is important. I agree totally that the game-play for any game is of the utmost importance, but being the sequel, I would have expected substantial improvements to the graphics, even later versions have the same poor graphics. If more effort was put into the aesthetics of strategy games, there might be a greater following and therefore more sales.
Overall, ...

Advantages: Outstanding playability, very addictive, good features, has stood the "test of time". Classic. Disadvantages: Diplomacy system could be better, animations were better in the original Civ.
I suspect that many if not most of you will have played Civilisation II, and being as it was released some 4 or 5 years ago there will be few people interested in the genre who have not purchased this game. However, these are opinions not reviews and so I write not to persuade you to purchase this outstanding product but instead to offer you my humble opinion and hopefully provide you with a minute or two of at least limited interest. So if you’ll ... ...continue. The original Civilisation (Sid Meier’s genius creation) challenged players to build an empire that would “stand the test of time”. The first major turn-based strategy game (yes there were probably others before it, but who’s ever heard of them?), Civilisation was an incredible success. The player chose a nation and was given a “unit” of “settlers” in an unknown world in 4000BC and with these ...

...people’s eyes has been the Civilization games.
In Civ 2, you play the leader of a civilization, ranging from Genghis Khan to Napoleon to Catherine the Great. Your tribe is initially tiny, and it is your first task to found a city and to allow it to grow. This is done by utilizing the natural resources around you and combining them with various city improvements that can be built, for instance building a granary in your city helps you to store ... ...be more useful to your civilization at different times, and you may find yourself having to focus on research to discover the requisite technologies before the advance you need can be reached. An example of this is as follows: you decide that your civilization would prosper better under the government type ‘Democracy’, to discover this you need to have both ‘Invention’(which you have) and ‘Banking’. However, your ...

Civilisation II could well be the greatest strategy computer game ever invented. The brainchild of Sid Meier this game allows you to oversee and run the development of a civilisation from it's foundation until 2020, or before if you conquer the entire globe or succeed in the space race. It is a deeply complicated and absorbing game which takes alot of getting used to, but if you put the effort in you can gain serious satisfaction. Civ II was originally ... ...sequels and related games, not to mention cheap rip-offs. Alpha Centauri was the follow up from Sid Meier (the original creator of the game), Civ II: Call To Power came from Activision but neither offered much in the way of improvement on the original format. Alpha Centauri looked weird and much of the fun of the original game was controlling real Earth based civilisations, not strange factions on alien planets. You begin the game with a measly settler ...

After seeing Civilization on the Amiga, and finding out that my Atari ST could not play this game, I purchased an Olivetti 386. The first game I purchased was Civilization. This resource-oriented war game was unique, combining war-gaming elements, strategy elements and economic elements all in one game. I played this game over and over for years and it became one of my favourites (I still have it on my PC now).
As with most ... ...you are not the only civilization on the earth. With up to seven other civilizations (who are also building cities and military might), and hordes of barbarians to contest with, you had to be careful not to expand while neglecting defense and/or attack.
Diplomacy also plays a part, negotiating peace treaty; trade agreements and non-aggression pacts were essential to having a successful game. You also at times have to double cross your allies, or ...
